BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Women's Basketball team fell to West Virginia Wesleyan 89-76 on the road today. The Bobcats shot 54% from the field and recorded 58 points in the paint in the win.
The Bobcats got the scoring started to begin the game and would hold onto the lead for most of the 1st Q until Esther Oluade connected on a pair of free throws to give GSU their first lead of the game with two minutes left in the opening quarter. A strong close to the stanza by WVWC allowed them to take a small 21-19 advantage into the 2nd quarter. Midway through the following quarter, the Bobcats built their lead to eight (38-30). However, the Lady Pioneers made sure to finish the first half on a high note, only trailing by two at half.
It took nearly two minutes before either team got on the board in the second half as the Bobcats struck first. Wesleyan amped the defense up and gained control of the contest, bursting out to a 61-50 lead. GSU used a last second three from Chalon Miles to trim the deficit to seven going into the closing quarter. The Lady Pioneers got within four points with just under five minutes remaining but WVWC found a way to counter every time Glenville got close. The Bobcats pulled away down the stretch with free throws to close out the 89-76 victory.
