GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball is scheduled to go north to begin conference play, heading to Morgantown tomorrow (Mar. 16) to take on Fairmont State and traveling to Maryland on Sunday (Mar. 17) to square off with Frostburg State. GSU split with the Falcons and were swept by the Bobcats in 2023.

THE OPPONENTS
FAIRMONT STATE
The Falcons enter (1-9), picking up their first win of the 2024 campaign on Mar. 2 against Bloomsburg. FSU went (11-35, 10-20 MEC) last year, not making the MEC Tournament.
Matt Yurish is in his fourth season as the Fairmont State Baseball Head Coach. In 2021, the Yurish-led Falcons went (27-22, 22-10 MEC), setting Yurish up for MEC Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm. He came to FSU after a three-year stint at AB, leading the Battlers to two 20-win campaigns as well as coaching MLB pitcher Randy Dobnak,
Vince Sabatino leads the Falcons in average (.345) and home runs (2) with 10 hits and 4 RBI as well. Quintin Smith and Ryan Goff are tied for the team lead in hits with 11 each while Smith is first on the squad in RBI with five. The Falcon arms have struggled thus far, posting a team ERA of 11.71. Logan McClure is first in ERA (5.25) and strikeouts (10).
FROSTBURG STATE
The Bobcats come in (7-5) with a winning streak of three. FSU was (33-20, 22-8 MEC) in 2023, winning the MEC North Division but falling to Charleston in the MEC Championship.
Anthony Williams is in his fifth season at the helm of the Bobcats. Williams has coached Frostburg State to consecutive 33-win seasons, the second-highest win total in program history. Prior to taking over at FSU, Williams was the HC at Clarion for four seasons, collecting 53 wins in those four seasons.
The Bobcats feature five players with an average of .300 or above, led by Ethan Kiple (.375), who is also first on the team in hits (18), doubles (5) and RBI (15). Danny Estrada has brought plenty of power to the lineup, boasting 3 HR and 11 RBI with a .277 AVG. Ryan Bouma is in the double digits in RBI as well, posting 11 so far. Jacob McDonald has started four games on the mound, going 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA and 20 strikeouts.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
The Pioneers enter the weekend (6-9) after dropping their final three games of the Wilson Tobs College Classic in North Carolina last week.
Fabian Escalante has been on a tear to start his senior season, hitting .480 with an OPS of 1.227, 24 hits, six doubles, 1 HR and 8 RBI. Mason Lohr (.342 AVG) and Zach Morris (.283 AVG) have used the past two weeks to their advantage, boosting their averages while Morris has also jumped to first on the team in HR (3) and RBI (14).
Julian Minaya leads the Pioneer pitching staff, holding a record of 3-0 in six appearances (four starts), an ERA of 1.62 and 30 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. As a team, the blue and white post an ERA of 8.11.
