Pioneers Sweep Fairmont State, Split with Frostburg State to Start Conference Play

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Glenville State Baseball team concluded the first weekend of conference play today against Frostburg State, splitting with the Bobcats. The Pioneers were able to take both games form Fairmont State yesterday, bringing their conference record to (3-1).

Saturday
Game One – GSU 8 | FAIR 3
GSU got the scoring started early when Carlos De Jesus ripped an RBI double down the left field line to bring Lance Minson and Fabian Escalante home. FSU answered back quickly, plating two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. After the two teams traded off runs in the 2nd, the Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the 6th on RBIs from Adam Bright and Fabian Escalante

The blue and white added three insurance runs in the 7th, using a 2 RBI single from Adam Bright and another RBI single from Fabian Escalante. The Falcons had the bases juiced in the bottom of the 7th, however Grant Landis didn't allow anything, securing the 8-3 win.

Box Score
Fabian Escalante (4-5, 3 RBI), Adam Bright (2-3, 3 RBI) and Carlos De Jesus (2 RBI) led the Pioneer offense. After Julian Minaya gave GSU 4.1 innings of work, Grant Landis picked up the win out of the bullpen, striking out four and allowing just one hit over 2.2 innings.

Four Falcons recorded a hit while two earned an RBI. Ben Taylor pitched out of the pen, taking the loss after allowing five runs (all earned) on five hits and three walks.

Game Two – GSU 6 | FAIR 3
Fairmont gained the lead right off the bat, hitting a 2-run single in the 1st inning. Adam Bright and Fabian Escalante then tied the game up at 2-2 in the third, followed by FSU taking the advantage right back on a wild pitch. A big four-run 6th inning allowed the Pioneers to gain the three-run advantage, led by Luis Liriano's 2 RBI single. Grant Landis was once again able to come in and shut everything down, earning Glenville the 6-3 victory.

Box Score
Three Pioneers finished with a hit, led by Luis Liriano adding 2 RBI to his one hit. Adam Bright and Fabian Escalante also finished with an RBI each. Diego Tamariz went 5.1 innings, striking out six. Grant Landis picked up his second win of the day out of the pen, going 1.2 innings with three strikeouts and no hits.

Five different Falcons had a hit with Cameron Sheets posting 2 RBI. Connor Tingler was tabbed with the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on just two hits and three walks.

Sunday
Game One – GSU 5 | FROST 2

The Bobcats plated the first run of the day on an RBI single before Adam Bright got the Pioneers on the board in the 3rd with an RBI single of his own. Zach Morris followed that up with an RBI single as well, giving GSU the 2-1 lead after three innings. The game would be tied up again in the 4th on a Pioneer wild pitch.

Glenville shoved three runs across the plate in the 5th on a Mason Lohr RBI triple and RBI singles from Zach Morris and Lance Minson. Austin Corn got out of a jam in the 6th and was backed up by Grant Landis closing the door in the 7th, giving the Pioneers their third-straight victory.

Box Score
Zach Morris led the offense with three hits and 2 RBI, followed up by Mason Lohr and Lance Minson posting two hits each. Three Pioneers also finished with an RBI. Austin Corn had his best outing of the season, going six strong innings and giving up two runs (both earned) with seven strikeouts.

The Bobcats were led by Cy Probst's two hits while Mikey Guy had their lone RBI. Max Proctor was handed the loss, finishing with a stat line of 4.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB and 3 K.

Game Two – GSU 4 | FROST 9
Frostburg got on the Pioneers early, plating four runs in the 2nd inning. They would then add two more runs in the 4th to make it a 6-0 ball game. Fabian Escalante brought home two runs on a single up the middle, then an error on the same play let another run cross as GSU cut the deficit in half. In the following inning, Zach Morris trimmed the Bobcat lead even more, singling to center to make it a 6-4 contest.

FSU created separation in the bottom half of the 5th, plating three runs the unconventional way. They would score the runs on an error, wild pitch and a balk. From there, the blue and white couldn't dig into the deficit anymore, falling to FSU 9-4.

Box Score
