GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to the nation's 16th ranked team, Charleston, earlier today at the SMSC. The Pioneers fell 8-0 in six innings in the first game and lost 3-2 in extra innings in the final game of the weekend.
Game One – GSU 0 | #16 UC 8 (6 Inn.)
The Golden Eagles used a home run over the center field fence to take an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd. The game became a pitcher's duel from there with Caitlyn Kassay battling it out with UC's Brianna McCown. After four innings of very little offense, Charleston broke the game wide open with a seven-run 6th inning, making it 8-0. The Pioneers weren't able to plate any runs in the bottom half of the inning, closing the game out after six innings.
Box Score
Delaney Warnick led the Pioneers with two hits while Kylee Goodman had the only other GSU hit. Caitlyn Kassay was handed the loss after five innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on two hits and seven walks.
Isabella Andujar was the only Golden Eagle with two hits, adding 2 RBI as well to her total. Allison Rubal also had 2 RBI in the win. Brianna McCown struck out 11, walked one and gave up three hits en route to her 10th win of the season.
Game Two – GSU 2 | #16 UC 3 (10 Inn.)
Following a pair of scoreless innings to open the game, UC broke the 0-0 tie with an RBI single to left and an error by the Pioneer defense, giving them the 2-0 lead. Glenville State responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 5th as freshman Hannah Howe and Delaney Warnick powered out home runs, tying it up at 2-2 after five innings of play.
The regular scheduled seven innings wouldn't be enough to conclude this game as the game went into extra innings when neither team could plate anymore runs late. The contest then went into the international tie breaker rule in the 10th, with the Golden Eagles capitalizing on this and scoring a run. In the bottom of the 10th, GSU had a runner on third but consecutive outs halted the game going any further.

Three Golden Eagles finished with two hits followed up by three others with one hit. Isabella Andujar recorded an RBI and Brianna McCown pitched six innings of relief, picking up the win with nine strikeouts.
