Baseball Mashes Four Home Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of Notre Dame College

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Notre Dame College earlier today, winning 6-2 (game one) and 7-3 (game two). The Pioneers hit four home runs on the day. 

Game One – GSU 6 | NDC 2 
The scoring got started in the 2nd inning when Carlos De Jesus hit a 3-run home run to left, driving Zac Bayor and Lance Minson in with him. It didn't take long for another one to jump over the fence as Jesus Del Valle went deep just two batters later, extending the Pioneer lead to 4-0. Consecutive innings of no-run ball was broken in the top of the 5th as NDC broke the deficit in half with a sac fly and an RBI single.  

GSU added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th on a Del Valle RBI single and Mason Lohr being hit by a pitch to plate another. Up 6-2 in the 7th, Diego Tamariz forced three-straight flyouts to give the Pioneers the 6-2 victory. 

Box Score 
Carlos De Jesus was 3-3 with 3 RBI to lead the Pioneers. Lance Minson, Zac Bayor and Jesus Del Valle all recorded two hits while Del Valle drove in two runs. Mason Lohr added an RBI in the win. Julian Minaya picked up win #4 of the year after 4.2 innings of work, giving up two runs (both earned) on two hits and five walks. Minaya struck out seven also. 

Three Falcons recorded a hit with Tyler Shadle and Johnny Costella both picking up an RBI. Eric Parriett was handed the loss, going 5.1 innings with six runs (all earned) on 11 hits and two walks.  

Game Two – GSU 7 | NDC 3 
The Pioneers got the scoring started earlier in game two as Zach Morris singled Fabian Escalante home in the bottom of the 1st to give GSU the early lead. Austin Corn nearly got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the 2nd, but a hit by pitch allowed the Falcons to tie the game up. After Adam Bright and Mason Lohr got on in the 3rd, Fabian Escalante gave Corn the lead back with a 3-run shot. 

The game was then blown wide open in the 4th inning as Adam Bright blasted a no-doubt home run to left field, bringing home three runs and making it 7-1 Pioneers. NDC plated two in the 6th ona home run of their own, however Corn was able to shut the door in the 7th to secure the 7-3 win. 

Box Score 
Seven Pioneers recorded a hit, led by Fabian Escalante's two hits. Escalante and Adam Bright both finished with 3 RBI while Zach Morris added 1 RBI. Austin Corn went the distance, allowing three runs (all earned) on just three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. 

Three different Falcons finished with a hit, led by Carson Petrecca's 2-run HR. Dylan Wimbs had an RBI as well in the loss. Danny Brammer took the loss after just two innings as the Falcons made a pitching change at the start of the 3rd. 

Up Next For The Pioneers 
The Pioneers head to West Liberty for a doubleheader with the Hilltoppers on Friday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
