GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team concluded the MEC Northern Division portion of the schedule this weekend, sweeping West Liberty on Friday and splitting with Wheeling yesterday. The Pioneers will enter Southern Division play (8-2) in the MEC, tied with Charleston and West Virginia State at the top of the division.
Friday
Game One – GSU 14 | WLU 1
West Liberty scored their one and only run in the 1st inning on a towering home run to right field. Lance Minson answered back with a home run of his own in the 2nd to tie the game up at 1-1. The Pioneers would then put up a huge inning in the 3rd, plating an astounding 12 runs. Zach Morris (RBI single, 2-run single), Zac Bayor (3-run HR), Carlos De Jesus (solo HR) and Adam Bright (2-run single) all got in on the fun to make it 13-1 GSU after three innings. After a sac fly from Bright in the 4th, the rest of the game remained quiet as Glenville won 14-1.

Three Pioneers had three hits while three others had two hits and another three had one hit, totaling nine different Pioneers finishing with a hit. Zac Bayor, Mason Lohr and Zach Morris all had 3 RBI in the victory. Julian Minaya gave GSU another great start, picking up his 5th win on 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB and 10 K.
Ryan Talbert led the Hilltoppers with two hits and an RBI. Brady Harmon was handed the loss after allowing 8 runs (six earned) on nine hits and striking out five.
Game Two – GSU 5 | WLU 4
One of the premiere MEC hitters, James Salvatori, got WLU on the board first with an RBI double and then was drove in on a double as well, giving the Hilltoppers an early 2-0 lead in the 1st. Mason Lohr made it a 2-1 game with an RBI single in the top of the 3rd, however a 2-run Salvatori home run boosted the Hilltopper lead to three.
The Pioneers began to chip away at the WLU lead one inning at a time, plating a run in the 4th, another in the 5th and two in the 6th to take a one-run lead. Grant Landis was brought in to get a two-inning save and he did just that, securing the 5-4 win.

Carlos De Jesus led the team with two hits, followed by four other Pioneers with a one. Mason Lohr, Luke Sweigart and Adam Bright all finished with an RBI. Diego Tamariz was rewarded with the win after five innings of work, striking out nine with four runs (all earned) on five hits and three walks.
James Salvatori went 3-3 with 3 RBI to lead the Hilltoppers. After coming in relief, Trevor Thomas took the loss after giving up two runs (all earned) on two hits and two walks.
Saturday
Game One – GSU 17 | WHL 6
The first inning saw no runs but that quickly changed for the Pioneers as Mason Lohr hit his first home run of the day, blasting a 3-run shot in the 2nd. Lance Minson, Luis Liriano and Lohr all picked up an RBI in the 3rd, extending the GSU lead to 6-0. Wheeling added two runs in the bottom half of the 3rd, trimming the deficit to four. Lance Minson (3-run HR) and Mason Lohr (solo HR) got the Pioneers up to 10 runs in the 5th.
The Cardinals put a four spot up in the 6th to make it interesting again. Glenville pulled away in the 6th and 7th innings, adding seven runs over the two innings on a HR and multiple 2-run doubles. Christopher Thompson closed WHL out in the 7th, stamping the Pioneers 17-6 win.

Lance Minson was 4-5 with 4 RBI, followed by Mason Lohr's 2-3 performance with 5 RBI. Fabian Escalante and Adam Bright added 2 RBI in the win. Austin Corn was credited with the win after 4.2 innings, surrendering five runs (all earned) on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Braden Killens and Bode Stewart led the Cardinals with two hits while Spencer Craig added 3 RBI in the loss. Wes Landis went 2.2 innings, allowing six runs (all earned) on five hits and five walks.
Game Two – GSU 8 | WHL 11
Fabian Escalante got GSU up on the board in the 1st inning but it wouldn't take Wheeling long to tie the game up, plating a run in the bottom half of the first on a wild pitch. Mason Lohr continued his great day with a 2-run double in the top of the 2nd. The Cardinals scored a run in the 2nd and another in the 3rd to tie the game once again. Glenville retook the lead in the 4th, plating three runs on a sac fly, a Zach Morris RBI and an error.
After the Pioneers gained the lead back, Wheeling had a big seven-run inning in the bottom of the 4th to go up by four runs. GSU chipped away at the deficit with a run in the 5th and another in the 8th, however it would be too late as the Cardinals captured the 11-8 win.

Four Pioneers finished with two hits, led by Mason Lohr going 2-3 with 2 RBI. Five other Glenville hitters recorded an RBI in the defeat. Cole Grady was given his second loss of the 2024 campaign, allowing five runs (all earned) on five hits and three walks over three innings.
Tyler Livingston led the Wheeling offensive attack, finishing 3-4 with 3 RBI. Three Cardinals added two hits each in the victory. Kody McCarley was awarded the win following six innings, giving up eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits and three walks.
