GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team went to the capital city this weekend, being swept by Charleston yesterday and splitting with West Virginia State today. The Pioneers were swept by UC in the season series while splitting with WVSU for the year.
Friday
Game One – GSU 0 | #15 UC 7
Charleston wasted no time getting on the board, plating an early run on an error by the Pioneer defense. The Golden Eagles would then add a run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings, making it 3-0 after three innings of play. The game would be blown wide open in the 5th as UC's Isabella Andujar hit a 3-run home run, followed by an RBI double to extend the advantage to seven runs. From there, GSU struggled to find offense against one of the best pitchers in the country, Brianna McCown, eventually losing 7-0.

Shelby McDaniels had the only hit for the Pioneers as Madison Thimmes took the loss after three innings of work, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks.
Hannah Rose and Bianca Polistina both went 2-3 while Isabella Andujar drove in a team leading 3 RBI. Brianna McCown pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit and striking out 11.
Game Two – GSU 3 | #15 UC 11 (6 Inn.)
Following a scoreless 1st inning from both squads, Emma McLean hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the Pioneers up. In the 3rd, Karlie Burdick found home on an error by UC. Charleston answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, trimming the deficit to one. McLean blasted her second solo shot of the day in the top of the 4th, however Charleston would come back mightily in the bottom of the fourth to take over, scoring five runs to gain their first lead of the contest. The Golden Eagles added another run in the 5th, followed by four more in the 6th to force the mercy rule, winning 11-3.

McLean's two hits (both home runs) and 2 RBI led Glenville as three other Pioneers finished with a hit. Holly Brehm took the loss, posting 3.2 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 1 BB and 5 K.
Three Golden Eagles went 3-4 with two others recording two hits in the win. Lindsey Phares, Hannah Rose and Isabella Andujar all had 2 RBI. Layla Jelenic picked up her third win of the year, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over four innings pitched.
Saturday
Game One – GSU 0 | WVSU 1
The first game of the day became a pitcher's duel with neither squad being able to produce much offense. The Pioneers were able to record hits, recording five over the span of the whole game. The only run of the game was scored in the bottom of the 3rd on an error. Glenville State was able to get a runner to third in the top of the 7th, however a game-ending strikeout secured the 1-0 win for WVSU.

Five different Pioneers finished with a hit in the defeat. Holly Brehm pitched a no-hitter with two walks and 13 strikeouts but would be handed the loss.
Game Two – GSU 5 | WVSU 2
Monica Rodelo got the Pioneers on the board in the top of the 1st on an RBI single, bringing Kylee Goodman home. A few innings later, West Virginia State took the lead on a 2-run inside the park home run. WVSU held the lead for a pair of innings before that changed in the 5th when GSU put up a three spot on an RBI single from Delaney Warnick and Addison Aguiniga as well as a sac fly from Emma McLean.
Caitlyn Kassay added an insurance run in the top of the 6th with a solo home run, extending Glenville's advantage to three. Kylie Burdick kept the Yellow Jackets at bay for the remainder of the game, allowing GSU to take the 5-2 win.

Delaney Warnick and Meghan Stump recorded two hits each while five other Pioneers finished with a hit. Warnick, Monica Rodelo, Addison Aguiniga, Caitlyn Kassay and Emma McLean all had an RBI in the victory. Kyle Burdick went the full seven innings, giving up two runs (both earned) on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Emma Pauley had two hits and Emele Clark finished with 2 RBI to lead the Yellow Jackets. Kaleigh Murphy took the loss after four innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on six hits and no walks.

Glenville State is back on the road next weekend, starting the weekend off with a doubleheader at West Liberty on Saturday (Apr. 6). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
