GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball will travel to North Carolina for spring break, facing off with UNC Pembroke tomorrow (Mar. 5) before heading to Wilson, N.C. for the Wilson Tobs Classic. The Pioneers will face Clarion on Thursday (Mar. 7) and Friday (Mar. 8), then take on Wheeling in non-conference play on Sat. (Mar. 9) and Sun. (Mar. 10).

THE OPPONENTS
UNC PEMBROKE
The Braves enter (15-3, 4-2 Conference Carolinas) after sweeping Chowan this past weekend in conference play.
UNCP has seven players batting .300 or batter, led by Blake Hinson's .529 AVG. Joey Rezek (.362 AVG, 6 HR, 23 RBI), Jake Bradley (.387 AVG, 5 HR, 21 RBI) and Kody O'Connor (.359 AVG, 4 HR, 22 RBI) have brought the most power to the Braves lineup. The UNC Pembroke pitching staff holds a team ERA of 4.50 as Luke Barrow leads the team in innings (23.0), games started (5) and strikeouts (28).
CLARION
The Goldean Eagles come in (2-10), previously losing two of three to Lake Erie College over the weekend. CU and the Pioneers met to start the 2024 campaign with the Pioneers taking two of three.
Scotty McManamon is batting .350 with 2 HR and 4 RBI to lead the Clarion offense. Caden Contant is putting up 2 HR and 8 RBI but his average currently sits at .167. Kasey Shughart is second on the team in AVG (.344) and hits (11). Ryan Gallagher and Reilly Shafer head the pitching staff as Gallagher posts a 3.38 ERA and Shafer a 3.91 ERA.
WHEELING
The Cardinals enter the weekend (5-3), winning five of their last six games. WU and GSU split in the two games they played in 2023.
Scott Kondroik is batting .444 with an OPS of 1.336, adding 3 HR and 9 RBI to his season stats. Braden Killens has had a great start to the season as well, posting an average of .387 with 5 HR and 14 RBI. Nicholas Martinez (2-0, 1.74 ERA) and Kenny Jinks (1-0, 2.84 ERA) head the Cardinals pitching staff.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
The Pioneers enter (5-5) following a split with Tiffin in their four-game set over the weekend.
Fabian Escalante is off to a tear to start the new year, posting a stat line of .563 AVG, 1.431 OPS, 18 hits, four doubles, 1 HR and 7 RBI. Mason Lohr (.364 AVG) and Zach Morris (.333 AVG, 3 HR, 11 RBI) had a strong weekend against Tiffin to boost their season stats. Through 11.2 innings of work, Julian Minaya is atop the Pioneer pitching group with an ERA of 0.77, 2-0 W-L record and 20 strikeouts. Grant Landis has also had a strong start to the 2024 season, holding a 2.19 ERA and 10 strikeouts through 12.1 IP.
