WILSON, N.C. - The Glenville State Baseball team picked up a 14-8 win over Clarion to start the Wilson Tobs Classic last night. The Pioneers plated those 14 runs on just five hits and Fabian Escalante broke the GSU doubles record, picking up his 40th career double.

After a quiet first inning, the Pioneers scored five runs in the top of the 2nd on an error, RBI single by Mason Lohr, Vincent Turner getting hit by a pitch and Carlos De Jesus walking in a run. Clarion added a run to the board in the bottom half of the inning on a Pioneer error. Adam Bright put another run up for the Pioneers on a sac fly in the top of the 4th before GSU plated six runs in the 5th. In that 5th inning, Mason Lohr (2 RBI), Zach Morris and Jesus Del Valle all had RBIs.
CU was able to cross two runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, making it 12-3. The 6th and 7th went quiet until GSU added a run in the top of the 8th and in the 9th. Down 14-3, the Golden Eagles scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth but it would be too late, allowing the Pioneers to take the 14-8 victory.

Mason Lohr and Vincent Turner led the Pioneers with two hits apiece while Lohr had 3 RBI. Adam Bright put together 2 RBI with five Pioneers finishing with 1 RBI. Julian Minaya had his no-hit bid broken up in the 5th inning, securing the win after striking out 10.
Kasey Shughart had two hits and an RBI to lead the Golden Eagles. Four other Clarion hitters finished with an RBI. Ethan Giangiulio was ran out of the game after 1.2 innings of work, surrendering five runs on two walks and a hit.

The Pioneers will take on Clarion once again today at 2:30 p.m. followed up by a non-conference game with Wheeling at 6 p.m. this evening.
