Baseball Loses to Clarion & Wheeling at Wilson Tobs Classic

WILSON, N.C. - The Glenville State Baseball team fell in both of their games at the Wilson Tobs Classic yesterday, losing to Clarion 11-0 and Wheeling 8-1. It was a tough day for the Pioneers as they were held to just seven hits on the offensive end while giving up 19 runs. 

Game One – GSU 0 | Clarion 11 
It was smooth sailing for both pitchers through the first four innings, however Clarion was able to plate three runs in the top of the 5th on an RBI single and a walk. The Golden Eagles would then blow the game wide open in the top of the 6th, scoring seven runs to make it 10-0. The scoring for CU ended in the top of the 8th as Clarion eventually closed the Pioneers out 11-0. 

Box Score 
Adam Bright and Austin Carter had the only hits for the Pioneers. Diego Tamariz was handed the loss after 4.1 innings of work, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits and three walks. 

Five Golden Eagles had two hits, led by Griffin Snyder's two hits and 4 RBI. Sam Economy also recorded two hits, finishing with 2 RBI. Reilly Shafer pitched a complete game, giving up just two hits and striking out 10.  

Game Two – GSU 1 | Wheeling 8 
Fabian Escalante got the scoring started for the Pioneers, bringing Mason Lohr in on an RBI single. Wheeling didn't put a run on the board until the 4th when they hit a home run, making it a 1-1 ballgame. They added to their lead in the top of the 6th, recording back-to-back RBI singles and now leading 3-1.  

In the 8th inning, the Cardinals created major separation by plating four runs on three walks and a hit by pitch. WU scored their final run in the top of the 9th on an RBI double, shutting the door on the Pioneers in the bottom of the ninth to take the 8-1 win. 

Box Score 
Mason Lohr and Fabian Escalante both finished with two hits while Escalante recorded the lone RBI for the Pioneers. Zach Morris also finished with a hit. The loss was given to Austin Corn after coming out of the pen for Adam Bright

Aidan Willard led Wheeling with three hits and 2 RBI, followed by six other Cardinals picking up an RBI. Wes Landis went five innings, picking up the win on one run (earned) on four hits and six strikeouts. 

Up Next For The Pioneers 
The Pioneers will play Wheeling once again in non-conference action tomorrow (Mar. 10) at 10:30 a.m.
