GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball continues MEC Southern Division play this weekend, heading south to face West Virginia State in a four-game series. The Pioneers lost three out of four in 2023 to the Yellow Jackets.

THE OPPONENT
WEST VIRGINIA STATE
The Yellow Jackets come in (19-11, 11-3 MEC), winning three out of four at West Virginia Wesleyan last weekend.
Sean Loyd is in his 10th season at the helm of WVSU. In those 10 seasons, he has totaled over 230 victories, including over 170 wins in conference play. In his 30 years with the program (20 as an assistant, 10 as the HC), the Yellow Jackets have claimed 11 conference championships and made two NCAA DII World Series appearances. Loyd was athletic director at WVSU from 2008-15 too.
Mike Huber is one of the top hitters in the MEC, flashing a .370 AVG, 1.280 OPS, 10 HR and 33 RBI. Four other West Virginia State hitters are in the .300 or above average club, with Ryan Kay batting .367 and a team leading 40 hits. In total, four Yellow Jackets have 20+ RBI on the season. On the mound, Chris Morris has been great for WVSU, holding a 5-1 record, 1.55 ERA and 54 strikeouts through 46.1 IP.
THE PIONEERS
GLENVILLE STATE
The Pioneers are (16-15, 9-5 MEC), defeating Charleston in the final game of their four-game set last weekend.
Glenville State now features four players hitting above .300, led by Fabian Escalante's .430 mark. Escalante, Carlos De Jesus, Zach Morris, Zac Bayor and Lance Minson have all hit four home runs this year with Escalante leading the team in RBI at 28. Morris (25), Mason Lohr (22) and Adam Bright (21) are over the 20 RBI mark as well.
Julian Minaya (5-0, 3.28 ERA) is leading the Pioneer pitching staff, also striking out 54 over 35.2 innings. As a team, GSU has a 7.05 ERA with 251 strikeouts and a 1.90 WHIP.
