INSTITUTE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team dropped the first two games of their series with West Virginia State today, losing 15-2 in game one and 8-6 in game two. The Pioneers now sit (9-7) in MEC play.
Game One – GSU 2 | WVSU 15
The Yellow Jackets took control of the game early on, plating two runs in the 1st inning. They would then blow it wide open in the 2nd, scoring six runs with another two crossing home in the 3rd, making it 10-0 after three innings of play. A scoreless fourth inning was followed up by WVSU adding onto their advantage in the 5th with two more runs.
The Pioneers used a solo home run from Fabian Escalante and a Zac Bayor RBI single in the 6th to plate their first runs of the game. West Virginia State poured on three more runs in the bottom half of the 6th, eventually closing out the 15-2 victory.

Five different Pioneers recorded a hit with Fabian Escalante and Zac Bayor both finishing with an RBI. Julian Minaya took his first loss of the season, going just 1.2 innings and giving up six earned runs.
Seven Yellow Jackets had at least one hit, led by Kyle Waters picking up three. Mike Huber and Chris Morris both finished with 3 RBI as Morris was also on the bump, winning the start through five innings of one-hit ball.
Game Two – GSU 6 | WVSU 8
Zach Morris got the scoring started in the top of the 1st, doubling to right center to bring Fabian Escalante in. Two innings later, Morris hit a grand slam to make it 5-0 Pioneers after three innings. WVSU got on the board in the 5th, using an RBI single down the left field line. Escalante hit his second home run of the day in the top of the 7th, giving GSU a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the 7th.
The bats came alive for the Yellow Jackets, trimming the deficit to one with no outs on a grand slam. After Glenville got an out, WVSU was able to go deep once again, this time to walk it off with a 3-run blast to take the 8-6 victory.

Zach Morris led the Pioneers with two hits and 5 RBI with three other Pioneers producing a hit. Grant Landis came in relief in the 7th, taking the loss with three runs (all earned) on one hit and two walks.
Three Yellow Jackets had two hits, led by Michael Bittinger's two hits and 5 RBI. Nathan Paulsen also had two hits, adding 3 RBI. Caleb Lafunor pitched four innings of relief, grabbing the win and giving up just one run (earned) on two hits and no walks.
