GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team picked up two big wins over Fairmont State today at the Sue Morris Sports Complex, defeating the Falcons 3-0 in game one and 1-0 in game two. GSU produced their third and fourth-straight shutouts with the wins.
Game One – GSU 3 | FSU 0
Following a quiet opening inning, the Pioneers were able to produce a run in the 2nd inning on a two-out RBI single from Addison Aguiniga and in the 3rd inning on an RBI from Emma McLean. Holly Brehm continued to dominate throughout, getting an extra insurance run in the bottom of the 6th from Aguiniga with a solo home run.
Brehm had a no-hitter going with just one out left in the game, however a line drive over the third baseman's head halted the no-hitter. She would get the next out, finishing with a one-hitter and capturing the 3-0 win for the Pioneers.
Box Score
Delaney Warnick and Addison Aguiniga both had two hits while Aguiniga led the team with 2 RBI. Emma McLean added an RBI in the win. Holly Brehm's one-hitter secured her the victory, striking out eight and walking just one as well.
Peyton Wetherholt had the lone hit for the Falcons. Allyson Nordling took the loss, going six innings and surrendering three runs (all earned) on seven hits and one walk.
Game Two – GSU 1 | FSU 0
It was a pitcher's heavy game between the Pioneers and the Falcons, with neither arm allowing a run through the first three innings of the game. However, GSU was able to use a leadoff single by Delaney Warnick in the 4th to their advantage, eventually plating a run on an infield single by Shelby McDaniels. That run proved to be crucial for the Pioneers as FSU wasn't able to plate a run for the remainder of the game, giving GSU the 1-0 win.
Box Score
Five Pioneers accounted for the five hits with Shelby McDaniels finishing with a hit and the game-winning RBI. Caitlyn Kassay pitched a gem, tossing a complete-game shutout with five hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
The Falcons also had five different players account for their five hits. Delaney Hall was handed just her second loss of the 2024 campaign, allowing one run (earned) on five hits and striking out five.
