Pioneer Softball Mercy Rules Concord in Game One, Lose Late in Game Two to Split Season Series with Mountain Lions

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team split with Concord earlier today at the Sue Morris Sports Complex, mercy ruling the Mountain Lions 8-0 in game one but falling 4-3 in game two. The Pioneer bats produced 16 hits on the day. 

Game One – GSU 8 | CU 0 (6 Inn.) 
The Pioneers had no issue plating runs in the 1st inning, scoring five on a Monica Rodelo fielder's choice, RBI single from Shelby McDaniels, 2-RBI double from Kaitlyn Rizor and an error by the CU defense. With the early lead, Holly Brehm kept the Mountain Lions scoreless inning after inning. It wasn't until the 6th inning when more runs would cross home. 

In that 6th inning, Emma McLean was hit by a pitch to make it a 6-0 game and Monica Rodelo ended the game in six innings with a 2-RBI single, securing the 8-0 victory for GSU. 

Box Score 
Makenna Negley was 2-3 while six other Pioneers finished with a hit. Monica Rodelo drove in three runs with Emma McLean, Shelby McDaniels. Kaitlyn Rizor and Addison Aguiniga all picking up an RBI in the win. Holly Brehm recorded her ninth victory of the season, going all six innings with five strikeouts and just four hits. 

Madison Hollis had two hits to lead the Mountain Lions but was given the loss in the circle after just one inning of work, surrendering three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk. 

Game Two – GSU 3 | CU 4 
Following a scoreless first inning and a half, Makenna Negley was able to single Shelby McDaniels home in the bottom of the 2nd to get the scoring started. In the top of the 3rd, Concord tied the game at one on an RBI single of their own. Two innings later, an Emma McLean solo home run and RBI single from Kaitlyn Rizor gave GSU a 3-1 lead after five innings of play.  

CU came back late, plating three runs in the top of the 6th on an RBI single and 2-run double to center. The Pioneers had runners at second and third with two outs in the bottom of the 6th but would leave them stranded. Glenville couldn't muster any more offense in the 7th as Concord won 4-3. 

Box Score 
Shelby McDaniels (3-4) and Makenna Negley (2-4, 1 RBI) led the Pioneer bats while Emma McLean and Kaitlyn Rizor were able to pick up a hit and an RBI each. Madison Thimmes was given the loss after six innings of work, allowing four runs (all earned) on eight hits and a walk. 

Kylee Stacy was a perfect 4-4 with an RBI as two other Mountain Lions finished with an RBI. Nancy-Jo Roberts went the full seven innings, surrendering three runs (all earned) on eight hits and five walks to earn the win.
