Preview: GSU Baseball Heads to Elkins for Four-Game Set with D&E

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball will head north to Elkins for a four-game series with Davis & Elkins tomorrow (Apr. 20) through Sunday (Apr. 21). The Pioneers swept the Senators in last year's series.

THE OPPONENT 
DAVIS & ELKINS 

The Senators come in (0-38, 0-18 MEC), previously losing to IUP on Tuesday in a doubleheader. 

Brett Ripley is in his second season leading the Senator Baseball program. In his first year at the helm, D&E won eight games, including seven Mountain East Conference contests. Ripley came to Davis & Elkins after working as the Associate Head Coach, Interim Head Coach and an assistant coach for a total of 12 years. In his one season as interim, he led the Bobcats to a 25-22 record. 

Logan Bradish leads the Senators in average (.331), OPS (.920), hits (40), doubles (12), home runs (4) and RBI (23). Only three other Senators have hit a home run this year while four other D&E hitters have double-digit RBI's. On the pitching side, Davis & Elkins has a team ERA of 15.25, allowing 431 earned runs thus far. 

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 

The Pioneers enter (18-17, 11-7 MEC) after splitting with West Virginia State over the weekend in a four-game series. 

Four Pioneers are batting over .300, led by Fabian Escalante's .419 average, 7 HR and 33 RBI. Carlos De Jesus (.364 AVG, 5 HR, 20 RBI), Mason Lohr (.330 AVG, 2 HR, 26 RBI, 13 SB) and Zach Morris (.315 AVG, 5 HR, 30 RBI) are all hitting over the .300 mark as well. Zac Bayor (4 HR), Lance Minson (6 HR) and Adam Bright (23 RBI) have also been productive with the bat this year. 

Julian Minaya suffered his first loss of the 2024 campaign on Saturday, shifting his record to 5-1 with an ERA of 4.58. Austin Corn improved his record to 4-1 and lowered his ERA to 4.15 after a no-run, three-hit performance on Sunday. Grant Landis is at six saves and Cole Grady is up to three wins as a freshman.
