ELKINS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team took the first two games of their four-game set at Davis & Elkins today, winning game one 9-2 and game two 11-7. In the second game, Diego Tamariz became the school's all-time leader in wins with 19.
Game One – GSU 9 | D&E 2
The Pioneers got the scoring started early, plating two runs on a single from Zach Morris in the first inning. An error by the D&E defense in the top of the 2nd allowed Glenville to extend their early lead. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Senators were able to cut into the deficit with an RBI single. It didn't take long for GSU to build their advantage back up with three runs in the 4th on an RBI single from Fabian Escalante and two errors by D&E.
A few innings later, Adam Bright and Mason Lohr hit RBI singles to make it 8-1, followed by Bright hitting a sac fly in the top of the 7th. The Senators were able to add a run to the board in the bottom of the 7th, however it was much too late as GSU closed out the victory 9-2.

Adam Bright had two hits and a pair of RBIs to lead the Pioneers while Zach Morris added 3 RBI. Fabian Escalante and Lance Minson also finished with an RBI. Julian Minaya went five innings, allowing one run (earned) on five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts to secure his sixth win of the season.
Zach Calef-Boring led the Senators with three hits and an RBI. Mason Brenneman finished with a hit and an RBI as well. Isaac Lane took the loss after three innings of work, giving up six runs (four earned) on four hits and seven walks.
Game Two – GSU 11 | D&E 7
The first run of the game was plated in the top of the 2nd on a Luis Liriano RBI single. In the following inning, GSU was able to score three runs on a D&E error and a Zac Bayor sacrifice fly. The Senators scored a run in the bottom of the 3rd, making it 4-1 Pioneers. Glenville extended their lead in the top of the 5th with three runs but D&E quickly answered with four runs in the bottom half of the 5th, only trailing 7-5.
Zac Bayor's RBI single and Luke Sweigart's RBI double allowed GSU to go up by four in the top of the 6th as Davis & Elkins once again answered back with a run in the bottom of the 6th. Lance Minson gave Christopher Thompson an insurance run in the 7th as the Pioneers eventually secured the 11-7 win.

Luis Liriano (3-4, 1 RBI), Lance Minson (2-4, 3 RBI), Zac Bayor (2-3, 2 RBI) and Luke Sweigart (1-3, 2 RBI) led the Pioneer bats. Diego Tamariz picked up his third win of the 2024 campaign, going four innings with one run allowed (earned) on one hit and four walks.
Zach Calef-Borning, Mason Brenneman and Logan Bradish all finished with two hits for the Senators with six different D&E hitters recording an RBI. Jake Garrett took loss #9 of the year, going four innings and surrendering six runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk.
