GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team mercy-ruled Salem in both games of their doubleheader today, winning 8-0 in five innings in the first game and 9-0 in five innings in the second game. The Pioneers produced 23 hits over the two games.
Game One – GSU 8 | SU 0 (5 Inn.)
Monica Rodelo and Shelby McDaniels both recorded RBI singles in the opening inning to give Holly Brehm an early lead. Two innings later, the Pioneers put up a four-spot on the board with a sac fly from Makenna Negley, a 2-RBI triple from Addison Aguiniga and an RBI single from Hannah Howe. Brehm continued to roll through the Salem lineup, allowing the GSU offense to muster together two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, closing out game one early, 8-0.

Hannah Howe led the Pioneers, going 3-3 with 2 RBI. Emma McLean, Shelby McDaniels and Kaitlyn Rizor all recorded two hits while Addison Aguiniga finished with 2 RBI. Holly Brehm struck out nine and allowed just two hits in five innings, picking up the win.
Meladie LeRance and Ricki Garay both had a hit for the Tigers. Andrea Gallegos was hit with the loss after surrendering six runs (all earned) on nine hits and two walks through three innings of work.
Game Two – GSU 9 | SU 0 (5 Inn.)
Just like the first game, GSU was able to plate runs early on. Glenville State plated five in the 1st inning on an RBI single from Monica Rodelo, 2-RBI single by Makenna Negley and RBIs from Kaitlyn Rizor and Addison Aguiniga. In the 2nd inning, Rodelo (RBI single) and Negley (RBI walk) extended the Pioneers lead to 7-0.
Caitlyn Kassay kept the Tigers scoreless while GSU continued to pour runs on as Negley picked up her fourth RBI of the contest on a sac fly and Sydney Reynolds scored the Pioneers ninth and final run of the game on a wild pitch in the 4th inning. Kassay put the finishing touches on the game in the top of the 5th, securing the 9-0 victory for GSU.

Delaney Warnick, Emma McLean, Monica Rodelo and Shelby McDaniels all finished with two hits while Rodelo recorded 2 RBI. Makenna Negley ended the game with a team-high 4 RBI. Caitlyn Kassay dished out another shutout, striking out four and allowing four hits over five innings.
Sierra Chapa went 2-2 to lead the Tigers. Kendall Lemley was taken out of the game in the top of the 1st, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits.
