Softball Records Third-Consecutive Doubleheader Sweep with Wins at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team picked up their third-straight doubleheader sweep at Davis & Elkins today, defeating the Senators 5-3 in game one and 8-5 in game two. GSU is now (15-13) in MEC play, sitting at No. 2 in the MEC Southern Division.

Game One – GSU 5 | D&E 3
A solo shot by D&E in the bottom of the 3rd put the Senators up, however Monica Rodelo answered back with a solo shot of her own in the top of the 4th to tie up. Later in the inning, a squeeze bunt by Makenna Negley allowed Shelby McDaniels to slide home and give the Pioneers the lead. In the top of the 6th, D&E was able to take the lead back with a two-run blast, making it 3-2 Senators.

Down to their final outs, Glenville produced three runs in the top of the 7th on a wild pitch and an error by the D&E defense. Holly Brehm came out strong in the bottom half of the 7th, sitting the Senators down in order to complete the 5-3 comeback for the Pioneers.

Box Score
Delaney Warnick was 3-4 while Monica Rodelo went 2-3 with an RBI. Four other Pioneers recorded a hit with Shelby McDaniels and Makenna Negley picking up an RBI each. Holly Brehm was victorious once again, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits and eight strikeouts.

Four different Senators accounted for their four hits. Lilly Saucedo had a hit and 2 RBI while Linzey Allard had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Saylor Kneeland took the defeat, going five innings with five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks.

Game Two – GSU 8 | D&E 5
An error by the Senators in the top of the 1st allowed Emma McLean to race home and put the Pioneers on the board first. A few innings later, Delaney Warnick went deep with a two-run blast to make it 3-0. In the top of the 4th, Hannah Howe blew the game wide open with a 3-run HR but it wouldn't take long for D&E to start chipping away at the Pioneers lead.

The Senators plated two runs in the 4th, one in the 5th and two runs in the 5th to cut the deficit to just one run. GSU produced a pair of big insurance runs in the top of the 7th on RBIs from Shelby McDaniels and Makenna Negley. Davis & Elkins went down in order in the bottom half of the 7th as the Pioneers won 8-5.
