Pioneer Baseball Slated to Host West Virginia Wesleyan in Four-Game Series

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball enters another big weekend of MEC play as they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a four-game set tomorrow (Apr. 27) and Sunday (Apr. 28). The Pioneers won three out of four last year in Buckhannon.

THE OPPONENT 
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
 
The Bobcats come in (10-28, 5-17 MEC), losing their previous 13 games. WVWC last won on Apr. 7 against West Virginia State. 

Lee Bradley is in his third season leading the Bobcat Baseball program. Bradley won three games in 2022 and 11 in 2023. He came to West Virginia Wesleyan after serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for NCAA Compliance at Alderson Broaddus. Prior to AB, he was on the staff at the University of Charleston for 11 years as seven of those years he was the associate head coach.  

Jack Tilton (.343 AVG) is first on the team in average while also leading the team in hits (46), doubles (10), stolen bases (11) and he's tied for the team lead in RBIs at 20. Luke Burner and Cole Shearer both have two home runs, which is also tied for the team lead. Josh Ayala (.325 AVG, 26 hits, 1 HR, 20 RBI) has also been solid for WVWC this year. The pitching staff has a 9.84 ERA, led by Hunter Eplin's 5.88 ERA. 

THE PIONEERS

The Pioneers enter (22-17, 15-7 ERA) after sweeping Davis & Elkins last weekend in a four-game set.  

Fabian Escalante continues to swing the bat over .400 as the senior comes in batting .402 with 53 hits, 14 doubles, 7 HR and 38 RBI. Carlos De Jesus (.337 AVG, 6 HR, 24 RBI), Mason Lohr (.333 AVG, 2 HR, 27 RBI), Zac Bayor (.326 AVG, 5 HR, 24 RBI), Zach Morris (.305 AVG, 5 HR, 25 RBI) and Lance Minson (.287 AVG, 6 HR, 23 RBI) add a lot of power to the Glenville lineup.  

Austin Corn is now 4-1 with a 3.83 ERA and Julian Minaya is 6-1 with a 4.25 ERA to lead the Pioneer pitching staff. Diego Tamariz recently broke the GSU all-time wins record, picking up his 19th career win at D&E, lifting his record to 3-4 for the year. Grant Landis is now up to seven saves after closing the door in game three of the series at Davis & Elkins.
