Preview: Pioneer Baseball Closes Regular Season with Home & Home Against Concord

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball will close out the regular season this weekend with a home and home four-game series against Concord. The Pioneers will travel to Athens tomorrow (May 3) before coming back home on Sunday (May 5) for senior day.

THE OPPONENT 
CONCORD 

The Mountain Lions enter (24-18, 14-12 MEC), losing their last six games, including getting swept by Charleston last weekend, which allowed the Pioneers to clinch their spot in the MEC Tournament. 

Zack Saryeldin (.426 AVG, 52 hits, 10 doubles, 11 HR, 49 RBI) and Chris Satcher (.400 AVG, 50 hits, 12 HR, 55 RBI) lead the Mountain Lions offense. Demetri Jamison has hit 16 doubles and drove in 27 runs while batting .364 as well. CU posts a team ERA of 6.57 as Jake Robinson is the #1 starter with a record of 3-2 and an ERA of 4.91. 

THE PIONEERS 
GLENVILLE STATE 

The Pioneers are (26-17, 19-7 MEC) and have won 10 games in a row, previously sweeping West Virginia Wesleyan last weekend. 

The Pioneer bats are led by Fabian Escalante, who is hitting .408 with 60 hits, 17 doubles, a triple, 8 HR, 44 RBI and an OPS of 1.209. Carlos De Jesus (.339 AVG, 7 HR, 27 RBI), Mason Lohr (.336 AVG, 3 HR, 29 RBI), Zac Bayor (.319 AVG, 5 HR, 24 RBI) and Lance Minson (.310 AVG, 44 hits, seven doubles, 9 HR, 29 RBI) are all batting over .300 while bringing pop to the lineup. Zach Morris (.299 AVG, 6 HR, 37 RBI), Luis Liriano (.273 AVG, 4 HR, 24 RBI) and Adam Bright (2 HR) have also been solid this year for the Pioneers. 

Austin Corn (5-1 W-L, 3.60 ERA) and Julian Minaya (7-1 W-L, 4.28 ERA) lead the pitching staff with Diego Tamariz (4-4 W-L) and Cole Grady (4-2 W-L) pitching well for GSU. Tamariz recently broke the all-time strikeouts record (210) and Grant Landis picked up his eighth save of the year to break the single-season saves record.
