Five Pioneers Earn All-MEC Baseball Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team had five Pioneers earn All-MEC honors, the league announced today. Fabian Escalante, Austin Corn and Grant Landis landed on the All-MEC First Team while Zac Bayor and Julian Minaya earned Second Team honors. 

ALL-MEC FIRST TEAM 
Escalante, a senior center fielder from Orlando, Fla., batted .406 with 65 hits, 10 HR, 52 RBI, 17 doubles, 10 stolen bases and a 1.218 OPS this year. He had 21 games of two or more hits, including seven that he had three or more knocks. He currently holds the GSU All-Time record in career doubles while also being the single season record holder in hits and doubles. Escalante was an All-MEC First Team selection last year and a Second Team honoree in 2022. 

Corn, a junior starting pitcher from Lithia, Fla., earned All-MEC First Team honors after going 6-1 with a 3.67 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched. He appeared in 11 games with nine starts as opponents hit just .214 off him. Corn tossed one complete game this year while going at least five innings in six of his nine starts.  

Landis, a Garrett Community College product and Rio, W.Va. native, has an MEC-leading nine saves on the year with 37 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched. The junior relief pitcher has appeared in 23 contests this year, the most of any Pioneer, while also starting in three games earlier in the year. He holds the single season saves record at GSU as well. 

ALL-MEC SECOND TEAM 
Bayor, a catcher / outfielder from Lakewood Ranch Fla., was honored on the All-MEC Second Team as a designated hitter. He hit .327 with 6 HR, 27 RBI, two doubles and OPS of .993. Bayor started in 38 of the 47 games for the Pioneers, tallying 35 hits and walking 29 times (3rd on team).  

Minaya, who came to Glenville State from Sullivan County CC and hails from Hempstead, N.Y., was named to the All-MEC Second Team with a record of 7-2 and an ERA of 4.88 in 10 starts this year. Minaya struck out 72 batters in 51.2 innings pitched and had five games of eight or more Ks with two being 10-strikeout games. He was an All-MEC Honorable Mention selected in 2022.
