CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team fell to the Fairmont State Falcons 19-11 in the opening round of the MEC Tournament at GoMart Ballpark today. The Pioneers surrendered 18 hits to the Falcons while FSU had four errors.

A blunder by the Fairmont outfield allowed the Pioneers to get on the board first with two runs on the error in the bottom of the 1st. FSU quickly took the lead, answering with three runs in the top half of the 2nd inning. Lance Minson knocked an RBI single to left to tie the game back up at three in the 3rd inning before another fielding error by the Falcons defense gave GSU a 4-3 lead in the 4th inning.
Following a pair of scoreless innings, Fairmont State knotted the game up at 4-4 in the 6th with a solo home run. In the 7th inning, an RBI double to right gave FSU the lead, however Luke Sweigart made it a tie game once again with a sac fly to center. The Falcons exploded for nine runs in the 8th inning to bust the game wide open, 14-5. A quick five runs by the Pioneers in the bottom of the 8th on a solo home run from Mason Lohr and a grand slam from Lance Minson made it 14-10, however FSU put up a five spot in the top of the ninth to pull away. The Pioneers plated a run in the 9th before Fairmont State closed out the 19-11 victory.

Mason Lohr, Carlos De Jesus, Lance Minson and Fabian Escalante all finished with two hits while Minson's 5 RBI led the team. Lohr, Zach Morris and Luke Sweigart added an RBI each. The Pioneers had nine pitchers touch the mound with Grant Landis receiving the loss.
The Falcons were led by Cameron Moore's four hits and 9 RBI. Two other Falcons had three hits while another three finished with two hits. Andrew Coursin pitched out of the pen, picking up his fourth win of the year on three innings of no-hit ball and one run (unearned).
