BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Soccer team has been picked fourth in the Mountain East Conference's southern division preseason poll, the league announced today.
University of Charleston is the defending MEC champion and they are tabbed as favorites in the southern division with a total of 57 points and eight first place votes. Behind the Golden Eagles is West Virginia State with 49 points and one first place vote and Concord with 45 points and two first place votes. Glenville State comes in at fourth in the south, tallying 34 points. Rounding out the southern division is West Virginia Wesleyan with 21 points and Davis & Elkins with 19.
The Pioneers are looking to improve on last year's historic run to the Mountain East Conference tournament for the first time in program history. GSU is led by Head Coach J.R. Dodson, who is in his fourth year at GSU, and returns key production in Merel Smets, and Aitana Viejo. A mix of high school recruits and transfers completed the roster for Dodson.
The Pioneers open the 2024 season at home at Morris Stadium against Lake Erie College September 8th at 12 p.m.
