Pioneers Cruise to 3-0 Sweep of Salem on the Road

SALEM, W.Va. – The Glenville State Volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep tonight at Salem to snap a four-game losing streak. The Pioneers totaled 41 kills and seven blocks in their ninth victory of the 2025 campaign.

After just leading by one point early in the first set, the Pioneers were able to turn a 6-5 advantage into a 20-13 lead on the back of Pioneer kills and Salem kill errors. From there, GSU scored five more points to take set one, 25-13. Glenville State fell down early in set two, however the Pioneers were able to flip a three-point deficit into a six-point lead midway through before pulling away to a 25-17 second set victory.

In the third and final stanza, the Tigers fell behind 8-4 but were able to use a 4-0 run to tie things up. Following the Salem run, GSU made a 7-0 run later in the set to once again pull away in the set, 25-17, and win the match, 3-0.

Noemi Combi led the Tigers with eight kills with Marika Righi notching six in the defeat. Katie Kennedy also added 19 assists while Righi had a team-leading 13 digs on defense.

Glenville State
Keleigh Chrisman led the way for the Pioneers with 10 kills as Rita Kelly and Mikayla Curry both pitched in with seven apiece. Two GSU setters reached double-digit assists in Elitsa Peneva (16) and Sadie Hill (12). Defensively, Cali Queen and Ava O'Hare were very active as the two combined for 30 digs. Curry once again led the Pioneers in blocks with four in the win.

The Pioneers quickly turn their attention to Point Park for a matchup with the Pioneers tomorrow (Oct. 18) afternoon at 1 p.m.
