GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team scored six runs in the final three innings to open the 2025 season up with a 7-3 win over Clarion earlier today. The Pioneers totaled 10 hits while the Golden Eagles finished with seven.

After two and a half innings of scoreless opening day baseball,
Zac Bayor lined a double down the right field line to plate the first Pioneer run of the new season. Clarion answered back with two runs in the top of the 4
th and one in the top of the 5
th to hold on to a 3-1 advantage. Bayor pulled the Pioneers a run closer with an opposite field solo shot in the bottom of the 6
th while
Colby Guy (RBI single) and
Luke Sweigart (RBI sac bunt) gave GSU the lead back.
Two more runs crossed the plate for Glenville State in the bottom of the 7
th on RBI singles from
Lance Minson and
Colby Guy.
Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8
th to make it 7-3 heading into the final inning. Freshman
Trent Taylor showcased his breaking ball in the 9
th, striking out two looking to secure the victory for the Pioneers.

Clarion
Seven different Golden Eagles accounted for their seven hits while Brody Hinkle (two RBIs) and Ethan Giangiulio (one RBI) plated runs for CU. Will Dean was handed the loss, lasting 5.1 innings and allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Glenville State
Zac Bayor, Rend Lake College transfer
Colby Guy and
Lance Minson all recorded two hits with Bayor and Guy gathering two RBIs each. Minson,
Luke Sweigart and Arcadia University transfer
Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez all notched one RBI in the victory.
Grant Landis came out of the pen in the relief for
Austin Corn (4.0 IP, 5 K, 3 H, 1 ER) as the reigning All-MEC First Teamer went four innings with one run allowed (unearned) on four hits and one walk. Landis also struck out four to pick up the win.

The Pioneers will complete their three-game series with Clarion tomorrow (Feb. 14). The doubleheader is slated for 12 and 2:30 p.m. at Sue Morris Sports Complex.
