GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Baseball team took on Lock Haven for an early afternoon doubleheader today as the Pioneers were unable to pull through in two very competitive and tight contests. Game one ended with a score of 1-0 while game two saw an end result of 4-2.
Game One - GSU 0 I Lock Haven 1
The first game of the afternoon was a defensive slugfest, with both teams combining to produce only five total hits. The lone offensive tally came on a sacrifice grounder in the top of the second inning, which was the only action the scoreboard saw for the remaining five innings. While the Pioneers were able to advance runners to second and third on multiple occasions, they were unable to drive them in. Even with a strong combined pitching effort, including a stellar performance by 2024 All-MEC First Teamer Austin Corn, they would eventually fall, 1-0.

Game Two - GSU 2 I Lock Haven 4
The second game was a replay of the first game through three innings, with both pitchers combining for eight strikeouts. The stalemate was broken in the top of the 4th by an opposite field home run by the Bald Eagles to make things 1-0. Glenville State would respond fast as Luke Sweiger scored from second on a Zach Laurie single. Sweigart then marked one down himself, making it home through a Hunter Thomas sacrifice fly. The opposition wouldn't be held down long, however, with Lock Haven finding their roll and tying things in the top of the 6th. This proved to be their most successful portion of the day, dropping two more runs before a highlight reel grab by center fielder Jayden Helmick halted any further progress. The Pioneers were ultimately unable to recover the deficit and would fall once again, 4-2.
