Nine-Run Sixth Inning in Game One, Walk-Off Bunt in Game Two Propels Pioners to Series Split with Bald Eagles

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Pioneer Baseball team got back on track after losing two on Saturday with a Sunday doubleheader sweep of Lock Haven at the SMSC. Game one was a show of offensive firepower, downing the Bald Eagles 14-3, while game two saw an exhilarating comeback and walk-off in favor of Glenville State, 6-5.

Game One - GSU 14 I Lock Haven 3
The first outing of the afternoon began similarly to the day before, with neither squad able to pace out very far. Zac Bayor got things going early for the Pioneers with a solo shot in the bottom of the first to give Glenville an early advantage, 1-0. Adam Bright would continue this trend in the second on a double that scored Hunter Thomas and increased the Pioneer advantage to 2. The Bald Eagles wouldn't be held down long, tying things up in the third on two bases loaded walks before taking the lead on a sac fly.

The lead didn't last for long, with Thoma sending Bayor home on a single to right to tie it back up in the bottom of the third. Luke Sweigart and Zach Laurie would score on an error to increase their lead to two. Things stayed deadlocked until the 6th inning, with Glenville State pumping in nine runs, including a 3-run shot by Quinn Lenamon. The Pioneers then handled business in the top of the 7th and secured the win, 14-3.

Game Two - GSU 6 I Lock Haven 5
The back half of the doubleheader got started fast in favor of the Bald Eagles. A bases-clearing double scored three in the top of the 2nd to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage, with a home run not long after giving them a 5-0 advantage. Glenville State stifled Lock Haven for the rest of the game and were kick-started on offense by a solo bomb by Zac Bayor in the 4th. Austin Carter gave the Pioneers more life on a single to score Carlos De Jesus and make things 5-2 entering the 5th. With the pressure mounting, Lock Haven would load the bases and walk in Zach Laurie. This gave the Pioneers energy and the rally was on, with Adam Bright and Jacob Meadows scoring on a Bayor single and tie things at 5 entering the final frame.

Ashton Crace entered in relief to hold the Bald Eagles scoreless, giving Glenville State a golden opportunity in the bottom of the 7th. Carlos De Jesus beat out the throw on an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez entered to pinch run for De Jesus and moved to third on a fielders choice. With Cajigas on third, Hunter Thomas caught the Bald Eagles sleeping and bunted down the first base line to score Cajigas and the Pioneers completed the comeback win, 6-5.
