GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team dropped the first two games of their four-game series with Mansfield earlier today, falling 5-4 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
Game One – GSU 4 | Mansfield 5
A pair of two out singles set up a Cole Serfass three-run home run for Mansfield in the top of the 3
rd. The Pioneers added their first runs to the board in the bottom of the 4
th, scoring on a fielder's choice and a sac bunt to make it 3-2. The Mountaineers went back up by three runs in the top of the 5
th on an error and sac bunt.
Down 5-2, the Pioneers chipped away at the MU lead with an RBI double by
Adam Bright in the bottom of the 6
th and an
Austin Carter RBI single in the 7
th. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, the Mountaineers were able to force a groundout to close their 5-4 victory.

Six different Mountaineers recorded a hit with Ryan Scott (3-4) and Cole Serfass (1-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI) leading the way. Jeffrey Coakley also added an RBI in the victory. Austin Lewis picked up the win after five innings of three runs (all earned) on five hits and four walks. Luke Raho pitched two innings to get the save.
Glenville State
Adam Bright went 2-4 with two RBIs and
Austin Carter was 2-2 with an RBI to lead GSU.
Zach Laurie's sac bunt rewarded him with an RBI as well.
Austin Corn took the loss following 4.1 innings of work, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks.
Game Two – GSU 1 | Mansfield 6
It was a slow start for both squads as the first run of the ballgame wouldn't come until the bottom of the 4
th when
Lance Minson lined a homer over the left field wall, making it 1-0 Pioneers.
Grant Landis nearly got out of trouble in the top of the 6
th, striking out two in a row with runners in scoring position, however Mansfield produced a two out single to right to take the 2-1 lead. The Mountaineers added four runs of insurance in the top of the 7
th and halted any comeback attempt by the Pioneers in the bottom half of the inning to win, 6-1.
Final Stats
Mansfield
Four different Mountaineers had two or more hits with Ryan Sekulski leading the way with three knocks and three RBIs. Mike Biuso added two hits and one RBI while Ryan Verbonitz had a pinch-hit RBI. Mason Pfeil earned the win out of the bullpen, pitching three innings and allowing just one hit with six strikeouts.
Glenville State
Three Pioneers accumulated the three GSU hits with
Lance Minson's home run plating the lone run.
Cole Grady had another quality start, going 4.2 innings and giving up no runs on four hits and two walks as well as six Ks.
Grant Landis was handed the loss out of the bullpen, surrendering five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks.
