GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team split the final day of the Sue Morris Sports Complex Classic earlier today, falling to Ashland, 3-1, in game one of the but bouncing back with a 7-3 victory over Bowie State in the classic finale.
Game One – GSU 1 | Ashland 3
What seemed to be a pitcher's duel early on was finally snapped in the fifth inning, when the Eagles plated one on an RBI double down the right field line and a second run on a wild pitch. The Pioneers answered, however, scoring a run on their own double down the right field line. Ashland added an insurance run in the top of the 7
th with an RBI single to make it 3-1. GSU put runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the 7
th but an
Addison Aguiniga flyball fell short near the warning track, ending the game.

The Eagles were led by Sophia Martin's three hit, one RBI performance as well Cassidy Shaffer and Danielle Robbins finishing with two knocks. Bryn Grabowski pitched a complete game, allowing one run (earned) on four hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Glenville State
Four different Pioneers recorded a hit with
Makenna Negley finishing with a hit and an RBI.
AndiJo Howard took the loss after 4.2 innings of work and allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits and two walks.
Game Two – GSU 7 | Bowie State 3
Following a scoreless first inning,
Kylee Goodman put the Pioneers on the board with a 2-run RBI double to left.
Addison Aguiniga and
Zailees Seda added to the board with RBI singles in the same inning, making it 4-0 GSU after two innings. Seda recorded her second RBI of the game in the bottom of the 4
th on a triple, extending the lead. Bowie State plated their first run of the game on a solo HR in the top of the 6
th. The Pioneers added a few insurance runs on a 2-run RBI single by Seda, putting the blue and white up by six runs. BSU made it interesting in the 7
th with two runs, however a pop fly to Aguiniga sealed the deal for Glenville State, 7-3.

Bowie State
A two hit, two RBI game from Presleigh Braxton headlined the Bulldogs. Jayla Hill's home run fielded her an RBI as well. Lindsey George took the loss after going three innings and giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits and one strikeout.
Glenville State
Zailees Seda went 4-4 with four RBIs to lead the Pioneers while
Monica Rodelo,
Kylee Goodman and
Addison Aguiniga recorded two hits. Goodman also knocked in two runs and Aguiniga plated one.
Kylie Burdick pitched a complete game, allowing three runs (one earned) on four walks and 10 strikeouts.
Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers are off for nearly two weeks before returning to the diamond at THE Spring Games in Florida. Their first matchup will be against Findlay on March 7 at 9 a.m.
