Pioneer Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader with Mansfield to Split Series

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State baseball team swept a doubleheader yesterday (Mar. 1) at the Sue Morris Sports Complex over Mansfield, winning game one, 14-13, and game two, 8-2. The wins earn GSU another series split.

Game One - GSU 14 | Mansfield 13
Game one was a high-scoring back-and-forth affair as Mansfield scored three runs in the first, however GSU would respond with three of their own after an Adam Bright single, a Zach Laurie sacrifice fly and a Colby Guy single as the game would be tied at three a piece after one inning. In the fourth, Zac Bayor hit a three-run opposite field home run to tie things at seven and Austin Carter reached on an error by the Mansfield centerfielder to plate two more Pioneers to make the score 9-7 in favor of the blue and white. In the fifth, GSU added on after doubles from Lance Minson and Carlos De Jesus, however Mansfield put the tying run on second base in the top of the seventh inning. After a ground ball was fielded by Adam Bright and thrown to second, there was obstruction called and the double play ended the game, 14-13 Glenville State.

Final Stats
Mansfield
Shane Stossel had five hits and six RBIs while Luke Raho and Jacob Houtz both collected two hits apiece. Austin Beauchamp took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs in just two thirds of an inning.

Glenville State
Zac Bayor had three hits and four RBIs to lead the Pioneer offense while Carlos De Jesus and Colby Guy both had two hits and Lance Minson had two RBIs. Josue Matos got the win on the mound with 1.2 innings of work, giving up a run and striking out one.

Game Two - GSU 8 | Mansfield 2
Just like in game one, the scoring began early as MU plated one in the first after a bases loaded walk. However, GSU would answer right back with a Lance Minson home run to left-center field, giving the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage. Two innings later in the third, Colby Guy jumped the yard with a moonshot blast to right field to make the score 7-2 in favor of GSU and Trent Taylor would settle in on the mound and only allow two earned through four innings of work. This allowed the Pioneers to build a comfortable lead as Ty Walton and Logan Frank both came out of the bullpen and did not surrender a run as GSU would win, 8-2.

Final Stats
Mansfield
Jacob Houtz had four hits and Ryan Scott collected two in the loss. Mike Biuso, Shane Stossel and Cole Serfass all had one hit each. Tyler Swineford took the loss, allowing four earned over four innings of work with seven hits and five strikeouts.

Glenville State
Zac Bayor and Lance Minson both had two hits in the game as Bayor collected two RBIs and Minson had four. Colby Guy had a home run and two RBIs while Jacob Meadows, and Carlos De Jesus both had hits as well. Trent Taylor collected the win on the mound, scattering nine hits and allowing just two earned across four innings. Ty Walton had four strikeouts in just an inning and two-thirds and Logan Frank had two strikeouts in just an inning and a third to close the game out.
