SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Glenville State Softball team split their final two games of the Valkyrie Classic yesterday (Feb. 2), beating Converse, 7-1, but falling to South Carolina Beaufort, 6-3, to close out the day. The Pioneers finished the weekend (3-2) overall.
Game One – GSU 7 | Converse 1
Monica Rodelo got the Pioneers on the board early with an RBI single in the top of the 1
st inning. Just an inning later,
Shelby McDaniels (2-RBI double) and
Delaney Warnick (2-RBI single) extended the Pioneers lead to 5-0. The Valkyries trimmed the deficit to four in the bottom of the 3
rd with a groundout that resulted in a run.
The game hit a stalemate until the 7
th inning when GSU put the game out of reach on an RBI triple by
Kylee Goodman and another RBI from
Delaney Warnick.
Meghan Stump put the finishing touches on her complete game in the bottom of the inning with a strikeout, closing out the 7-1 victory for the Pioneers.

Converse
Five different Valkyries notched a hit with Charley Swartzel posting the lone RBI for Converse. Riley Lingerfelt took the loss after just 1.1 innings of work, allowing five runs (all earned) on four hits and one walk.
Glenville State
Nine different Pioneers recorded a hit with
Shelby McDaniels leading the way with two. McDaniels also finished with two RBIs while
Delaney Warnick led the team with three RBIs.
Monica Rodelo and
Kylee Goodman had one RBI each as well.
Meghan Stump had her first complete game of the 2025 season, allowing just one run (earned) on five hits and one walk with a strikeout.
Game Two – GSU 3 | USC-Beaufort 6
Neither team plated a run in the first two innings, however
Shelby McDaniels hammered an RBI triple and
Delaney Warnick had an RBI single to put the Pioneers up 2-0. USCB scored one run in the 3
rd, two in the 4
th and three in the 5
th to jump out to a 6-2 advantage.
Zailees Seda was HBP in the top of the 6
th with the bases loaded to cut the deficit down to three, but that's all the Pioneers could muster together for the remainder for the game, falling 6-3.
Final Stats
USC-Beaufort
Daryn Miller (3-3, 2 RBI), Saria Simmons (2-4, 2 RBI) and Jaden Goodwin (2-2) led the way for the Sand Sharks. Cassie Brundage picked up the win, going four innings and allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits and two walks. Cierra Kinlaw recorded the save.
Glenville State
Makenna Negley went 2-3 while
Shelby McDaniels,
Delaney Warnick and
Zailees Seda all had an RBI.
Kylie Burdick was handed the loss after 3.1 innings of work, giving up three runs (all earned) on eight hits and one walk.
