GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer Baseball team took on Fairmont State this afternoon for a doubleheader against the Falcons. Though both games were tightly contested into the later frames, the Falcons utilized big innings in both games to extend the lead and down Glenville State in both games, taking game one, 15-2, and game two, 9-1.
Game One – GSU 2 I Fairmont State 15
The Falcons started off the front half of the doubleheader quickly, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Pioneers would find their offense via a Zach Laurie solo shot in the bottom of the first and would be the only offense for either team until an Austin Carter single scored Zac Bayor from third in the bottom of the 4th. Fairmont State responded quickly, however, with a three-run homer in the top of the 5th to extend the lead to four. An avalanche then started, with the visitors scoring eight in the top of the 6th inning to snowball the lead to 12. A final homer in the top of the 7th would be the last offense of either team with this last shot securing the 15-2 win for Fairmont State.

Ryan Goff led the way for the Falcons with four RBIs, including a 3-run homer. Quintin Reep had three hits and three RBIs while Noah Canterbury also recorded three hits and supplied one RBI himself. Zach Brennan and Gage Bibey also had two RBIs as well. Micah Canterbury received the win on the day, striking out seven.
Glenville State
Zach Laurie recorded a solo home run, giving him an RBI and he also reached an additional two times via walks. Austin Carter also had a hit and an RBI while Colby Guy recorded two hits on the afternoon. Four pitchers were used and starter Cole Grady received the loss, striking out three.
Game Two – GSU 1 I Fairmont State 9
Things got going in a fast way for the Pioneers in game two with Adam Bright scoring on a Zach Laurie grounder to give an early 1-0 advantage to GU. The game would then turn into a defensive stalemate, with no offense until a Fairmont State homer in the top of the 4th to tie things at 1-1. After three more innings of being stifled, the Falcons broke it open in the top of the 7th, scoring in a variety of ways and positioning themselves with a 9-1 lead for the Pioneers to try and overcome. Glenville State was unable to mount a comeback and the Pioneers were defeated by a final tally of 9-1.

Zach Brennan led the offensive effort in game two with three hits and three RBIs as well as a solo home run. Ryan Goff had two hits and an RBI himself while Maddox Johnston had a 3-run shot to give him three RBIs. Connor Tingler received the win on the day, striking out five in just over four innings pitched.
Glenville State
Zach Laurie had the lone RBI of the day with Adam Bright scoring and having two hits in the back half of the doubleheader. Colby Guy also had two hits to push the Pioneer offense. Five pitchers were used in game two with reliever Cameron Byers receiving the loss, his first on the year. Starter Grant Landis had a solid outing, allowing only one run in four innings pitched and striking out three.

Glenville State Baseball has a quick turnaround for another home doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 15) against the visiting Frostburg State Bobcats. Game one is set for a first pitch at 1 p.m.
