Pioneers Struggle in Losses to Frostburg State

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team faced off against visiting Frostburg State in an afternoon doubleheader earlier today as the Bobcats utilized a scorching offensive attack to down the Pioneers in both games by scores of 26-4 and 21-3. The losses drop Glenville State to (10-10) on the season while the wins improve Frostburg State to (10-5) overall early in MEC play.

Game One – GSU 4 I Frostburg State 26
It was nothing short of an offensive barrage thrown by the Bobcats in game one, with things getting going for the visitors early by scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Frostburg State could seemingly do nothing wrong in the batter's box while the Pioneer pitching staff had unusual troubles finding the zone. Though the Glenville State offense did push back via a Colby Guy solo homer and scoring in multiple fashions, it was simply not enough to rival the Bobcat's fire on offense with the visitors securing a 26-4 win in game one.

Final Stats
Frostburg State
Mikey Guy set the pace for the Bobcat offense with three hits and five RBIs, including one home run. Four other Frostburg faithful had three RBIs in the first contest as well as four total home runs in the game and 16 hits as a team. Starter Jacob McDonald received the win, striking out six in four innings pitched.

Glenville State
Colby Guy sent his 4th home run of the season over the right field wall in game one, giving him an RBI as well. Adam Bright and Will Goldman also recorded an RBI while Zac Bayor led the squad in hits with two. Carlos De Jesus had a double as well. Seven Pioneer pitchers took the mound in the first outing of the afternoon with starter Austin Corn receiving the loss.

Game Two – GSU 3 I Frostburg State 21
The Bobcats carried the momentum from game one solidly into game two, getting started fast again with four runs in the first inning. Just as in the first game, it seemed as though Frostburg had a secret formula offensively, scoring in every half inning. Colby Guy would push back with his second solo shot of Saturday in the second inning, though the Pioneers could simply not find their groove in the box. Carlos De Jesus kick-started the offense in the bottom of the 6th with a solo shot, with another run scoring on an error. However, the Pioneers could simply not rival the streaking Bobcats fiery offense in game two as Frostburg secured the series victory, 21-3.

Final Stats
Frostburg State
Randy Steen led the way in the box, recording three hits and three RBIs in the game. Three other Bobcats had multiple hits including a 5-RBI performance by Jake Holler, which included two home runs. Starting pitcher Patrick Bauer received the win, striking out seven in four innings pitched.

Glenville State
Colby Guy again showcased power from the left side of the box with his second homer of the day to bring him to five on the season. Carlos De Jesus had two hits in the game with one solo home run and a double. Zach Laurie scored the final run on an errant throw to 3rd base. Six more Pioneers got their shot on the mound in this outing with starter Nathan Farmer receiving the loss, his first in 2025.

Up Next For The Pioneers
Glenville State Baseball will be back in action next Saturday (Mar. 22) to take on Salem in a doubleheader at Frank Loria Memorial Field. Game one is set for a first pitch time of 1 p.m.
