Softball Beats Charleston for First Time Since 2022, Earns Doubleheader Split

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team split their doubleheader today against the University of Charleston earlier today in the capital city, winning 6-5 in the first game and losing 7-1 in the final game of the day. The Pioneers record now stands at (11-8, 1-1 MEC).

Game One – GSU 6 | Charleston 5
The Pioneers would get the scoring started with a double from Delaney Warnick, who would bat two runners in. The Pioneers then scored again in the fourth inning on a Shelby McDaniels single, bringing the Pioneers lead to three. Warnick found herself at bat again as she would double two runners in to get the Pioneers lead to six runs. The Golden Eagles' bats started to heat up in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to cut the Pioneers advantage to two. Charleston took this momentum into the fifth inning, scoring again to trim the Pioneers lead to one. Despite the Golden Eagles momentum, the Pioneers were able to survive game one, taking the win, 6-5.

Three different Golden Eagles led the team with two hits each while four different Golden Eagles had one hit apiece. Addison Mass struck out two, walked four and gave up seven hits in the defeat.

Glenville State
Three different Pioneers led the team with two hits while three other Pioneers had a hit each. Delaney Warnick led the way with five RBIs. Kylie Burdick was awarded the win after five innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits and one walk.

Game Two – GSU 1 | Charleston 7
In the second game of the day, the Pioneers would get on the board first in the second inning by an error that would force a runner in. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles started to heat up with three runs to take the lead from the Pioneers. The very next inning, Charleston would add two more runs to their total. The Golden Eagles plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to get their lead to six going into the final inning of play. The Pioneers were unable to get anything going and would fall to the Golden Eagles, 7-1.

Kyra Gooler led the Golden Eagles in hits with two while she also scored two runs. Kayla Moran and Brittny Ogg both had two RBIs each. Chloe Elliot pitched five innings of relief, picking up the win with five strikeouts.

Glenville State
Three different Pioneers had a hit each in the final game of the day. Meghan Stump pitched four innings, surrendering three runs with three strikeouts.
