NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team started off a weekend of road trips with a short journey up I-79 to battle with the Salem Tigers earlier today. The Pioneers were able to take the back half of the afternoon doubleheader, 5-3, while they were unable to come out on top in the first round, falling 8-0.
Game One – GSU 0 I Salem 8
The first contest of Friday's action saw a continued struggle by the Pioneers to find offense, only recording two hits in the outing The scoring woes plagued the Pioneers in the box and they were unable to overcome the efforts of Salem, who came out swinging with impressive showings all around. With a strong performance on the mound and at the plate by the Tigers, GSU was unable to find their footing and would lose Game one, 8-0.

Jose Lojo carried the torch in the first half of the doubleheader with two hits and three RBIs. Aaron Forbes was not far behind in production, bringing home two on a 5th inning homer while Joe Wintermute had two hits and one RBI. Sam Schmitt had a day on the mound with a complete game shutout, striking out 10 and earning his 3rd win of the 2025 campaign.
Glenville State
Zac Bayor and Zach Laurie picked up the only two hits in the game for the Pioneers with Bayor earning a double and Laurie picking up a single. Six pitchers saw action on the mound with Adam Bright receiving his first loss on the year, giving up three runs and striking out two in three innings pitched. Ty Walton had two strikeouts on a pitch count of only 16 in 0.2 innings pitched.
Game Two – GSU 5 I Salem 3
The second meeting would be a return to form for the Pioneers with a great defensive effort to hold the Tigers to only five hits in the outing. Things got going quickly on a first inning Zach Laurie double to left field that would score Zac Bayor, though Salem struck back in the bottom of the 1st to take a 2-1 lead. Things stayed deadlocked at this score until the 4th inning when Austin Carter brought Zach Laurie home on a clutch double. Laurie then took things into his own hands and sent a 3-run shot over the center field wall that brought home Colby Guy and Jacob Meadows to give the Pioneers a 5-2 advantage. Though the Tigers did add one more to their tally in the bottom of the 5th, they were stifled by the Pioneer pitching attack, who stuffed the rally attempt and secured Glenville State a much-needed victory.

The Tigers had their turn of offensive problems in Game two with no players recording multiple hits or RBIs. Jose Lojo, Jacob Hurley and Luis Angarita all had a hit and an RBI in game two with Aaron Forbes and Ryder Costa constituting the other two hits. Richie Preston took the loss, his first on the year, striking out two in three innings pitched.
Glenville State
Zach Laurie carried the torch offensively with a hallmark performance, recording hits in all three at bats, including an RBI double and a 3-run home run. Austin Carter earned an RBI on a double while Jacob Meadows recorded two hits. Luke Moore finessed his first win the season with four strikeouts in four innings pitched, allowing only one earned run.
