Pioneers Score 25 Runs on the Day, Kylie Burdick Tosses No-Hitter in Doubleheader Sweep of West Virginia State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team scored a combined 25 runs en route to their season sweep of West Virginia State on Sunday (Mar. 30) afternoon. The Pioneers defeated the Yellow Jackets, 19-3, in a shortened game one while Kylie Burdick tossed a no-hitter in game two, helping GSU secure the 6-0 victory. The Pioneers improve to (19-12, 9-5 MEC) and now sit tied for first place in the MEC South Division. 

Game One – GSU 19 | WVSU 3 (5 Inn.)
The Pioneers scored the first run of the game in the opening inning before they would plate another in the second inning to increase their lead over the Yellow Jackets to two. The Pioneers went off in the third inning, scoring a total of seven runs to lead the Yellow Jackets by nine runs. In an effort to start a comeback, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Pioneers lead to six. The Pioneers quickly put a stop to this comeback, scoring a whopping 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go up by 16. With the Yellow Jackets unable to answer back the game would end in five innings, giving the Pioneers the 19-3 victory in the first game of the day.

Kerigan Moore led the Yellow Jackets in hits with two while also batting one runner in. Autumn Hall picked up the loss after pitching 2.2 innings.

Glenville State
Emma McLean led the Pioneers with three hits and two RBIs while scoring four times. Three different Pioneers had three hits each. Kylie Burdick picked up the win after pitching three innings, striking out four and allowing two hits and no runs.

Game Two – GSU 6 | WVSU 0
In game two, Glenville State started where they left off in game one, scoring a run in the first inning to gain the lead. In the third inning, the Pioneers would add two more runs to their total to lead the Yellow Jackets by three. Emma McLean took full advantage of a WVSU blunder to make it 4-0 before Kylee Goodman added some insurance in the 6th inning with a 2-RBI single. Kylie Burdick completed the no-hitter with a one-two-three 7th inning, securing the 6-0 win and season sweep against West Virginia State.

WVSU had three different Yellow Jackets earn a walk in the no-hitter. Kaleigh Murphy took the loss after pitching six innings and striking out one. She also gave up 10 hits and six runs. 

Glenville State
Zailees Seda and Emma McLean led the Pioneers with two hits apiece and Makenna Negley led the Pioneers in RBIs with two. Kylie Burdick took her second win of the day in the no-no, walking three and forcing 11 flyouts and eight groundouts.
