Shutouts by Pitching Staff Leads Pioneers to Victories Over West Liberty

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team won both games of their doubleheader against West Liberty earlier today as the Pioneers wouldn't allow the Hilltoppers to score any runs, winning the first game, 9-0, and the second game, 5-0. The Pioneers increase their winning streak to five and improve to (21-12, 11-5 MEC) on the year. 

Game One – GSU 9 | WLU 0 (5 Inn.)
The Pioneers started off hot, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump on WLU early. Neither team would score in the second inning but in the third inning, the Pioneers added another run to their total to increase their lead to six. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Pioneers scored again off a double from Shelby McDaniels that would allow Kylee Goodman to score before plating two more in the bottom of the fifth, securing the 9-0 run-rule victory.

The Hilltoppers only had three hits with three different players having a knock each. Madison Angus picked up the loss after pitching just a third of an inning inning.

Glenville State
Three different Pioneers would lead the team in hits with two apiece while Hannah Howe led the team in RBIs with five. Kylie Burdick picked up the win after pitching all five innings, striking out four and allowing three hits and no runs.

Game Two – GSU 5 | WLU 0
In game two, the Pioneers \started things off how they left them in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Both squads would go scoreless in the second inning, however Glenville State added onto their lead with two runs in the third on a double steal and a Monica Rodelo RBI single. Meghan Stump kept the Hilltoppers at bay as GSU held onto their 5-0 advantage throughout, winning their fifth game in a row.

Five different Hilltoppers recorded a hit in the defeat. Kadence Pettit would take the loss after pitching three innings, striking out five and giving up seven hits and five runs.

Glenville State
Monica Rodelo led the Pioneers in hits and runs batted in, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.. Meghan Stump was awarded the win after pitching all seven innings, in which she struck out six and no runs.

Glenville State is set to host Wheeling on Tuesday (Apr 8) in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
