Wilson, N.C. - The Glenville State Baseball team got off to an unblemished start in North Carolina earlier today, going (2-0) in a Friday doubleheader. The Pioneers defeated Chestnut Hill College in their first matchup ,9-4, and took down Cedarville, 7-5, in the back half.
Game One - GSU 9 I Chestnut Hill 4
The Pioneers got off to a good start in the first of their two Friday contests, taking down the Griffins, 9-4. Glenville State used a fast start in the 1st inning via a two-run shot by Lance Minson with the Griffins knotting it up at two in the 3rd inning. Zac Bayor shifted the needle back in the Pioneers direction not long after with a 3rd inning solo shot to give the Pioneers a one-run advantage. The 5th inning saw the Pioneers break things wide open after a grand slam by Zach Laurie, increasing the Pioneer advantage to five. A double by Lance Minson would score two and make things 9-2 during the 6th inning. Though Chestnut Hill plated two more, the Glenville State defense held strong and secured the 9-4 victory to start Friday off strong.

Four different Griffins contributed an RBI on the day. Catcher Justin Geiger had two hits while second baseman Justin Bowman had a hit and an RBI. Rich Bonio received the loss, recording six strikeouts and allowing seven earned runs on the outing
Glenville State
Lance Minson had another strong outing, recording a home run and a double to contribute four RBIs for the Pioneers. Zach Laurie recorded four RBIs after a grand slam in the 5th inning, while Zach Bayor rounded out the RBI contributions on the day. Four Pioneers scored two runs and sophomore Cole Grady received the win on the mound, striking out five.
Game Two - GSU 7 I Cedarville 5
The Pioneers finished off the doubleheader with a victory over the Yellow Jackets, 7-5. The loss drops Cedarville to (6-9) on the season while the Pioneers improve to (8-6). Glenville State jumped out to another fast start, scoring five in the first inning, most notably from a Zac Laurie two-run shot. Colby Guy would knock one in to make things 6-0 in the 2nd inning. There would be no more action until the 6th inning with the Yellow Jackets getting on the board and the Pioneers responding after a hit by pitch scored Adam Bright from 3rd. Cedarville fought back in the final frame, scoring three on a double and another on a bases loaded walk. However, the Pioneers held strong defensively and stifled the comeback to secure their second win of the day, 7-5.

Second basemen Cooper Martin led the way with two hits and three RBIs. First baseman Caleb Martin and left fielder Caden Shook also had RBIs on the day. Tate Marland received the loss, allowing six total runs and striking out twp in a game that saw the Yellow Jackets use six total pitchers
Glenville State
The Pioneers had a combined offensive effort to lead the squad to victory, with right fielder Zach Laurie finishing as the only team member with more than one RBI via a two-run shot in the first inning. Colby Guy had two hits and recorded an RBI as well. Grant Landis collected his second win of the season on the mound, striking out four and allowing no runs. Nathan Farmer and Trent Taylor both recorded two strikeouts in relief.
