GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Pioneer Baseball was on fire earlier today, taking both ends of a doubleheader against the visiting Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State, giving them a boost towards one of the ever-valuable conference tournament spots against a division opponent. With a (3-1) record this weekend after splitting yesterday's doubleheader against WVSU, the Pioneers find themselves in a tie for 4th place and one game out of 3rd in the MEC South Division as the regular season finds itself beginning to wind down. Game one was a tightly contested defensive scrum, with a final score of 4-3, while game two saw the Pioneer offense turn up and lead the way, winning 10-3.
Game One – GSU 4 I WVSU 3
The first square off of Sunday afternoon was nothing short of a pitching coaches dream for the first four innings with no runs by both teams and only two total hits through three innings of play. Adam Bright would finally put the scoreboard manager to work, bringing Luke Sweigart to the promised land via a double to right center. The Yellow Jackets woke up offensively not long after, knotting things up at one in the top of the 5th. Sweigart would use a strategically placed bunt to send Austin Carter home, with Bright again increasing the Pioneer advantage to two with a sacrifice fly after the bottom of the 5th. The pace increased again through a Carter single that scored Colby Guy and gave GSU their biggest advantage of the game. Down to their last strike in the top of the 7th, the Yellow Jackets decreased the Pioneer advantage to one on a perfectly timed double. With the pressure on, GSU delivered defensively and stifled the rally attempt, securing the 4-3 victory.

Ayden Hodges took the loss, striking out four in five innings on the mound.

Bright made the most of his two at bats on the day, legging out an RBI double and bringing another home on a sac fly. Carter and Sweigart constituted the other Pioneer RBIs in the game with the duo also being the only squad members with multiple hits. It would be a combined effort on the mound, with four pitchers seeing action and the win falling to starter Grant Landis. The results of the day improve Landis to (3-3) in 2025, striking out six in five innings pitched.
Game Two – GSU 10 I WVSU 3
The Pioneers would be a little more urgent with their offensive attack in the second half of action with Lance Minson coming across on an error in the bottom of the 1st. Quinn Lenamon kickstarted the wave with a 3-run shot in the 2nd that brought home Guy and Zac Bayor. Sweigart kicked the door down via a 2-run homer later in the same inning and the Pioneers grabbed a 6-0 lead through two innings. The 3rd inning saw the Pioneer lead balloon to nine via a Colby Guy single, Carlos De Jesus walk and a Luke Sweigart single. Though WVSU would push back with three runs between the 4th and 5th innings, it would be a route for the Pioneers in game two, sweeping the Sunday series and providing them with much needed momentum heading into their final few games of the year.
