GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Pioneer Baseball picked up two key conference wins at home earlier today, taking down Davis & Elkins in both halves of an afternoon doubleheader. With the postseason fast approaching and the Pioneers in a dogfight with West Virginia State for the 3rd place spot and with it a trip to the MEC tournament, today's success keeps the squad within one game of the Yellow Jackets. Game One - GSU 12 I Davis & Elkins 3
It was all offense in game one for the Pioneers, who caught the wave early to keep the scoreboard operator busy. After a scoreless first inning, Zac Bayor would be the one to kick the door down first in the 2nd, bringing home Zach Laurie on an RBI double. Colby Guy took advantage of his first crack and brought home Adam Bright on a sacrifice fly, with Austin Carter beginning a monstrous outing to continue the flow with an RBI double that rounded Bayor to the pentagon to make it 3-0. However, the Senators would quickly tie it up in the top of the 3rd with a three-run bomb and tighten it back up. This only awakened the GSU bats further, with Carter gaining two more RBIs via a single that scored Quinn Lenamon and Guy. Carter then made his way home thanks to a single from Carlos De Jesus, refreshing the lead back to three entering the 5th. It would be a highly productive 5th, with Guy and Carter both starting the landslide with RBI knocks. Lance Minson then threw his hat in the ring with a double to score Guy and Bayor, with De Jesus rounding out the inning with a double to bring around Minson. With the insurance runs polished off by another Carter double to score Bayor and position them with a 12-3 lead, the closers would do their job and finish off the Senators to secure the nine-run win.
