GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team split their doubleheader with Davis & Elkins today, winning game one, 4-0, but falling 6-1 in game two.
Kylie Burdick broke the single-season wins record at GSU with her 17
th victory and
Makenna Negley notched her 18
th double of the year to break the single-season doubles record at GSU.
Game One – GSU 4 | D&E 0
Neither team had a hit until the 3
rd inning and it wouldn't be until the 4
th inning when
Makenna Negley broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single down the right field line. The following inning,
Shelby McDaniels made it a 2-0 game with an RBI single herself. Negley and
Hannah Howe added some insurance in the 6
th, pushing the lead to 4-0. The Senators made it interesting in the top of the 7
th, loading the bases with two outs. However,
Kylie Burdick got out of the jam with a strikeout to secure the win, 4-0.

Three different Senators made up for the three hits while Sammie Jarvis took the loss after going five innings and allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits and two walks.

Makenna Negley and
Emma McLean both had two hits with Negley leading the squad with two RBIs.
Shelby McDaniels recorded a knock and an RBI as well.
Hannah Howe finished out the scoring for the Pioneers with an RBI on a sac fly.
Kylie Burdick improved to (17-8) on the year and dished out her eighth shutout of the season, going all seven innings and striking out seven with just three hits and three walks allowed.
Game Two – GSU 1 | D&E 6
Unlike the first game, the Senators were able to get on the board, and they got on the board quickly. An RBI double in the top of the first gave D&E the lead before an RBI walk in the top of the 3
rd make it 2-0.
Makenna Negley cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the 3
rd on an RBI single. However, Davis & Elkins extended their lead to 4-1 in the 4
th and eventually made it 6-1 in the 6
th on a home run. The Pioneers were unable to mount a comeback, falling in game two.

Lina Gutierrez led the Senators with three hits and two RBIs, followed by Cortney Dobbs' two knocks and one RBI. Ashlyn Zapach and Jules Gutierrez also had a hit and an RBI in the win. Saylor Kneeland picked up her 12
th win of the season, going the distance and allowing just one run (earned) on eight hits and three walks.

Kylee Goodman all had two hits with Negley being responsible for the only RBI of the game for GSU.
AndiJo Howard took the loss after just one inning of work. In total, four Pioneer pitchers were put to use in the defeat.
