SOFTBALL CLINCHES FIRST-EVER MEC SOUTH DIVISION TITLE!

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team clinched the program's first-ever MEC South Division title today in their doubleheader sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan! The Pioneers took game one, 4-1, and game two, 3-0. With the division title in hand, GSU has earned the No. 1 seed for the South Division in the upcoming MEC Tournament.

Game One – GSU 4 | WVWC 1
A grounder by Shelby McDaniels allowed Kylee Goodman to score after her leadoff double and stolen base, giving GSU a quick 1-0 lead. Two innings later, the Bobcats plated a run on an error by the Pioneer defense, knotting things up at one apiece. In a much-needed spot, Delaney Warnick broke the GSU single-season RBI record with a two-run bomb in the bottom of the fifth to give GSU a two-run advantage. An inning later, McDaniels delivered again with an RBI single, giving Kylie Burdick some insurance. Burdick would force three-straight groundouts in the top of the 7th, securing the 4-1 win for the Pioneers.

Five different Pioneers accounted for the five team hits, led by Shelby McDaniels' and Delaney Warnick's one hit and two RBIs each. Kylie Burdick went the distance and was impressive in doing so, giving up one run (unearned) on four hits and one walk, also striking out three.

Game Two – GSU 3 | WVWC 0
In the second inning, Monica Rodelo hit a moonshot over the wall and Emma McLean brought Zailees Seda home on a sac fly to make it 2-0. Following another scoreless inning from Kylie Burdick, an error by the WVWC defense in the 3rd inning gave GSU a three-run lead. Neither team mustered much offense for the remainder of the game as Burdick squandered just two hits in the final four innings. In the top of the 7th, the Pioneers clinched their first-ever MEC South Division championship on a lineout double play to shortstop, wrapping up the regular season in poetic fashion with the 3-0 win.
