Back-to-Back Comebacks Headline Senior Day Victories Over Concord

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Pioneer Baseball was back in action yesterday, taking on Concord in a pivotal doubleheader with the postseason fast approaching. With so many different angles at play, from senior day to playoff positioning, the Pioneers succeeded and took both outings, coming back in each to propel themselves to 2nd place in the MEC South Division. As the conference prepares for its last day of regular season action today, GSU has positioned themselves to have a shot in the postseason, with losses by West Virginia State propelling the Pioneers in the standings. Still with two against the Mountain Lions this afternoon, Glenville State stormed back from an off and on start to the season to give themselves a shot to make noise in Charleston next week.

Game One – GSU 8 I Concord 5
It was a back-and-forth affair in game one, which got going fast with the Mountain Lions taking a 2-0 lead following the top of the 1st. Colby Guy made sure that didn't last long, sending his 10th home run of the year over the right field wall to score three and give the Pioneers their first lead of the contest. This would be the tally until the 6th inning with Concord rallying in the top of the 6th to take a 5-4 advantage. Once again, the GSU offense made quick work of this advantage, first with a two-run single by Austin Carter, immediately followed by a three-run mammoth shot by Lance Minson to pace out the lead to four. While the Mountain Lions would score one in the 7th, it would not be enough, and the Pioneers secured the game one victory, 8-5.

Final Stats
Concord
Both Nick DiSanti and Korbin Bostic had two RBIs on the outing, both homering as well. D.J. Christian Jr. picked up the other RBI, while Kaden Swaim and Tyson Burke both recorded doubles. MJ Hunter stole two bases, while Matthew Disanti swiped one as well. Logan Darrow picked up the loss in relief, his 4th of the year.

Glenville State
Minson and Guy both had a home run, three RBIs and an additional single. Carter had two hits as well, recording two RBIs himself. Adam Bright had two hits in game one himself, while Minson also stole a base. Luka Moore took the win in relief, his 2nd of the year, while Grant Landis had another outstanding performance on the hill, striking out six in 5.2 innings pitched.

Game Two – GSU 9 I Concord 8
The last go around of the Pioneer seniors at Kenny Greenlief Field was one for the ages, though it did not start in favor of GSU, as Concord scored one on an errant throw in the 1st. This would be the only offense until Zach Laurie won a long at bat and sent a line drive bomb over the left field fence to tie things up in the bottom of the 4th. Guy would come in clutch again and bring home Bright to give the Pioneers their first lead of the game. After perfectly executed small ball from GSU, two more runs came home in the bottom of the 6th to increase the Pioneer lead to a seemingly insurmountable three-run advantage. However, the Mountain Lions stormed back In a big way, racking up seven in the top of the 7th and suddenly turn the game upside down, leading 8-4 heading into the final frame. With their backs against the wall, the Pioneers would fight back, kickstarted by a two-run single by Jacob Meadows to trim the deficit to two. With two outs and the tying run coming up to bat, Concord chose to intentionally walk Lance Minson, loading the bases for Carlos De Jesus. In a spectacular piece of hitting, DeJesus put one off the wall in left center, bringing around all the runners, with Minson crossing unblemished to give the Pioneers one of their biggest wins of the year in one of the most manic finishes you will ever see, 9-8.

Final Stats
Concord
Nick Disanti had another noteworthy performance with three hits and two RBIs, including a double. Brendan Brady would bring home two on a double while Bostic, Hunter and Demtri Jamison made up the rest of the Mountain Lions with an RBI each. Zach Powell picked up the relief loss, his 8th of 2025.

Glenville State
De Jesus would be the hero of the day for the Pioneers, his three-run double walking it off in remarkable fashion. He also brought home an additional run on a walk to give him four in the game. Meadows had two RBIs and just as many hits, adding a stolen base as well, while Minson and Laurie also had two hits and a single RBI apiece. Guy had an RBI in the outing to round out the offense. Luka Moore picked up his 2nd win of the day in relief, completing the insanity that was the final round of home action for the Pioneers in 2025.

Up Next For The Pioneers
It will be a quick 2nd date for the Pioneers and Mountain Lions, with another doubleheader set for this afternoon in Athens. The first pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
