WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Basketball team continued their winning streak by hitting the century mark on the road against the Hilltoppers of West Liberty earlier tonight, 100-89. GSU improved to (12-2) overall and (7-1) in the MEC with their ninth straight victory.
1st Half
WLU started off the scoring with a two-point jump shot but Glenville State responded with a layup from Carine Pinkney. The Lady Pioneers controlled the half with contributions from Nwando Okigbo and Stevi Yancy in the first, holding a five-point lead at the end of ten minutes of action, 30-25. The Glenville State lead would build in the second quarter with scores from Khalia Bryant and Wonder Nkoyock as the advantage ballooned to 16 at 58-42.
2nd Half
GSU would hold serve with a 29-point third quarter, not allowing the Hilltoppers to cut into the lead as Ashlyn Riley knocked down a shot from beyond the arc, Keanti Thompson connected on a layup, and Nylah Davis cashed in a basket as the Lady Pioneers held an 87-71 lead at the end of three quarters. As the final stanza began, Payton James knocked down a three-pointer early to push the lead to 18, but a jumper from Riley, Bryant, and a layup from Pinkney put the game out of reach, 100-89.
Final Stats
West LIberty
Reagen Vinskovich scored 28 points to lead all scorers, while Jameka Brungard had 18, Anna Lucarelli scored 16 and led the team in rebounding with eight. Olivia Baker closed the book with 14 in the defeat.
Glenville State
Carine Pinkney and Nwando Okigbo both had 22 to lead in scoring for GSU, and Okigbo also had seven rebounds on the night. Ashlyn Riley scored 15 points while shooting 7-11 from the field and Khalia Bryant recorded 13 points. Stevi Yancy and Wonder Nkoyock both had nine points for the Lady Pioneers.
