ELKINS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team earned a hard-fought Mountain East Conference road win Wednesday (Jan. 7) night, battling past Davis & Elkins, 91–86, inside the McDonnell Center. In a game that featured constant momentum swings and late-game pressure, the Pioneers showed plenty of toughness to improve to (8-5, 3-3 MEC) on the season.
1st Half
The opening half was a test of patience for Glenville State. Davis & Elkins came out aggressive, using transition threes and early energy to jump ahead and control the tempo. Glenville weathered the early storm behind interior finishes from Prince Mosengo and timely perimeter shots from Don Colon-Lewis, gradually clawing back into the game.
Despite multiple lead changes and both teams trading runs, Davis & Elkins closed the half with a late three to carry a 42–37 advantage into the break. The Pioneers trailed, but never lost rhythm, staying within striking distance through rebounding and second-chance opportunities.
2nd Half
GSU wasted no time responding after halftime. Jalen Knott opened the half with a three, sparking a surge that quickly erased the deficit. Glenville's ball movement improved, the defense tightened, and the game turned into a grind — exactly the style the Pioneers wanted.
As the half progressed, GSU took control behind Knott's shot-making, Elijah Redfern's downhill attacks, and Mosengo's physical presence inside. Every time Davis & Elkins answered, Glenville responded, refusing to let the game slip.
With just over ten minutes remaining, the Pioneers strung together a decisive run fueled by perimeter shooting and defensive stops, building a multi-possession lead that forced Davis & Elkins to
chase for the remainder of the night.
Davis & Elkins made several late pushes, knocking down contested threes and attacking the rim to keep things tense down the stretch. The Pioneers showed poise at the free-throw line and executed in critical moments, sealing the game with smart possessions and defensive rebounds in the final minute for a 91–86 victory.
