Baseball Erases Three-Run Deficit in Game One, Walks it Off in Game Two in Opener Versus Mansfield

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team erased a three-run deficit in game one and used a walk-off single in game two to sweep the first two games of the 2026 season at home against Mansfield today (Feb. 14). The Pioneers defeated the Mountaineers, 4-3, in game one before downing MU, 10-9, in game two.

Game One – GSU 4 | Mansfield 3
It was a pitchers dual in the first four innings of the new season, as both teams put runners on base but couldn't capitalize. That changed in the fifth inning when Mansfield scored three runs on a pair of RBI doubles on the Pioneer bullpen. In the bottom half of the 5th, Greyson McNeill blasted his first career home run over the fence to trim the deficit to two, 3-1, before Zach Laurie punched a run across home on a dribbler to first. Two batters later, Colby Guy ripped a single to right field to give GSU the lead.

Ashton Crace was dominant out of the pen for Jimmy Mullins' squad in the final innings, as the right hander struck out one and forced three lineouts and two groundouts to pick up the two-inning save in the Pioneers 4-3 season-opening victory.

Final Stats
Mansfield
Michael Palmer logged two hits while Billy Rigs had two RBIs and Brinden Floyd added one RBI. Garrett Emerick had a no-hitter through four innings, but ended up surrendering three runs (all earned) on one hit and three walks in 4.1 IP. Brad Hood took the loss after allowing an earned run on one hit and one walk.

Glenville State
Colby Guy's two-RBI single and Greyson McNeill's solo home run produced the only hits for the Pioneers, as Mansfield hit two GSU batters and walked another four. Grant Landis went four innings in his first start of 2026, striking out six and giving up just two hits and walking three. Cameron Byers secured the win in relief.

Game Two – GSU 10 | Mansfield 9 (8 Inn.)
It was a much faster start for the blue and white in game two, putting a three spot on the scoreboard in the opening inning with a Colby Guy sac fly, wild pitch and an RBI from Luke Sweigart. An inning later, Adam Bright broke the game wide open with a grand slam to make it 7-0, Pioneers. Mansfield used an explosion of their own in the top of 3rd, scoring seven runs on a groundout, walk, two-RBI double and a three-run home run.

Both bullpens were strong in the fourth and fifth innings, however, the Mountaineers were able to crack the iron of the Pioneer pen with two runs in the top of the 6th on a two-RBI double. Luke Sweigart answered back with RBIs of his own in the bottom half of the inning, knotting things up at nine. After a strong seventh and eighth inning by Zach Dellerman, Greyson McNeill walked it off in the bottom of the 8th with an RBI single to give GSU the 10-9 win.

Final Stats
Mansfield
Kahale Burns and Peter Tadic both logged 3 RBIs while Billy Riggs had two and Nick Ledger produced one run batted in. After coming out of the pen, Matt Rader took the loss with three runs allowed (two earned) on four hits and three walks.
