Pioneers Use Late Inning Magic to Take Game Three, Drop Game Four of Series with Mansfield

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team captured their first series of the 2026 season on Monday (Feb. 16), defeating Mansfield in a thrilling 7-6 extra inning contest before dropping the series finale, 6-1. With the split, the Pioneers are (3-1) on the young campaign.
 
Game One – GSU 7 | Mansfield 6 (9 Inn.)
Following a scoreless first inning, Colby Guy belted his first home run of 2026 into the parking lot to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead in the second. Mansfield quickly responded, using a 2-RBI single to gain the lead before stealing home and notching a sac fly to go up 4-1 in the 3rd. Greyson McNeill singled to left field before the close of the inning, trimming the deficit to two. The Pioneers bit another piece off of the MU lead in the bottom of the 5th when Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez singled to center to make it 4-3, Mansfield.
 
West Virginia State transfer Cody Rinehart knotted it all up at four in the bottom of the 6th with a shot up the middle, however, the Mountaineers regained the advantage in the top of the 8th as extra innings began. Gavin Blair did his first heroic action of the evening in the bottom of the inning, blasting a home run to tie things back up at five. A wild pitch with one out in the top of the 9th allowed MU to once again regain the advantage. After Austin Carter extended the game with a solo blast, Blair game through in the clutch with a two-out, 3-2 count RBI hit that landed in the right-center field gap to score Zach Laurie from first.

Six different Mountaineers accounted for the six team hits, with Slade Mictigue leading the way with two RBIs. Quinn Shindler started, going 3.2 innings with four strikeouts, five hits and five walks. Isaiah Dull ended up taking the loss out of the pen, giving up two runs (earned) on the solo home run and walk-off knock.

Greyson McNeill had three hits and an RBI while Gavin Blair went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez also had two hits and an RBI, and six other Pioneers finished with one hit. Adrian Orozco made his Pioneer debut, pitching 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and allowing four runs (all earned) on four hits. Five pitchers trotted out of the bullpen, with Cameron Byers winning his second game of the season in relief.
 
Game Two – GSU 1 | Mansfield 6
The Mountaineers got on the board quickly, securing the first inning lead with an RBI double and extending their advantage to 3-0 on a Peter Tadic two-run home run. Down three runs, Adam Bright cut into the deficit in the bottom of the 3rd on his RBI double that plated Austin Carter. Mansfield gained that run back and more in the following inning, utilizing a pair of RBI singles to make it a 5-1 ballgame. MU put the finishing touches on their first win of the season in the top of the 7th when Tanner Hoffman stole home as Mansfield closed the book on the 6-1 win over the Pioneers.

Peter Tadic went 3-for-4 with a team-leading three RBIs while Billy Riggs notched two hits and two RBIs in the win. Tyler Swineford pitched a strong five innings to get the victory, allowing just one run (earned) on two hits and three walks.
 
Glenville State
Adam Bright, Zach Laurie and Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez all recorded hits while Bright was responsible for the lone RBI. Zach Dellerman took the loss after 3.1 innings, giving up four runs (earned) on eight hits with three Ks.
 
Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers are back at Kenny Greenlief Field on Saturday (Feb. 21) for the first two games of their four-game series with Lock Haven. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
