GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team went (4-0) at this past weekend's Sue Morris Sports Complex Classic, defeating Bowie State, 5-0, and Seton Hill, 11-7, on Friday (Feb. 20) before beating Gannon, 2-1, and D'Youville, 10-0, on Saturday (Feb. 21).
GSU 5 | Bowie State 0
Glenville State wasted no time getting on the board, with
Hannah Howe walking and
Zailees Seda scoring on the wild pitch.
Emily Nolan then brought Howe home with an RBI single to make it 2-0 in the opening inning. Three innings later,
Faith Yoho singled down the right field line to score
Emma McLean and increase the Pioneer lead to three.
Delaney Warnick added some insurance in the 5
th inning and
Alli Hypes scored on an error in the 7
th as the Pioneers closed out the 5-0 win over the Bulldogs.
GSU 11 | Seton Hill 7
Hannah Howe once again got the party started, this time with a two-run home run in the first stanza. Innings later, SHU trimmed the deficit in half and eventually tied it in the 4
th. GSU answered with a run in the bottom of 4
th before exploding four six runs in the 5
th innings to notch a six-run lead. The Griffins quickly made it a close game again, plating four across the plate in the sixth inning. Howe and
Zailees Seda added two insurance runs for the Pioneer pitching staff and SHU couldn't overcome the 11-7 GSU lead.
GSU 2 | Gannon 1 (8 Inn.)
In a pitcher's dual that saw
Kylie Burdick go eight strong innings, it was an early RBI double that seemed to be the difference maker, however,
Delaney Warnick tied things up at one in the bottom of the 6
th with an RBI single.
Hannah Howe continued her strong weekend and became the hero in extra innings with her walk-off RBI single as Glenville State beat Gannon, 2-1.
GSU 10 | D'Youville 0 (6 Inn.)
The Pioneer bats were quiet in the opening innings of the final bout of the weekend, but that wouldn't last forever as
Delaney Warnick and
Lillian Burns both had 2-RBI hits in the 3
rd and 4
th inning, respectively.
Kylee Goodman and
Shelby McDaniels had recorded an RBI each in the fourth stanza, but it was the four-run top of the 6
th that ended things once and for all against D'Youville, 10-0.
Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers don't return to the field until next Friday (Mar. 6) when GSU begins THE Spring Games in Florida.
