GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Basketball team improved to (21-5) overall and (15-4) in Mountain East Conference play with a decisive home victory over Charleston on Wednesday (Feb. 25) evening to at least claim a share of the MEC Regular Season title. After a slow start offensively in the opening quarter, Glenville State caught fire over the middle two periods and never looked back, outscoring Charleston 56-25 across the second and third quarters to seize control. The Pioneers used balanced scoring, strong work on the glass, and efficient three-point shooting to build a double-digit halftime advantage before stretching the margin to as many as 24 in the second half. Four Pioneers reached double figures as Glenville State shot 44.8 percent from the field and knocked down 12 three-pointers in the contest.
1st Half
Charleston jumped out early, taking a 19-12 lead after the first quarter while limiting the Pioneers to 6-of-19 shooting and 0-of-11 from three-point range. The momentum quickly shifted in the second quarter. Glenville State erupted for 28 points in the period, connecting on five three-pointers and tightening up defensively. Stevi Yancy sparked the run with multiple makes from deep, while Nwando Okigbo controlled the paint and the glass. The Pioneers outscored Charleston 28-16 in the second quarter to take a 40-35 lead into the halftime break.
2nd Half
Glenville State delivered its most dominant stretch in the third quarter. The Pioneers poured in another 28 points while holding Charleston to just nine in the frame. Defensive pressure forced difficult looks and limited second-chance opportunities, allowing the Lady Pioneers to extend the lead to 68-44 heading into the final period. The fourth quarter saw the Pioneers maintain control, matching Charleston's 22 points with 19 of their own to secure the 87-66 victory.

Charleston
Paris Stokes led the team with 15 points and five rebounds, while Ksenija Mitric also scored in double-figures at 13. Jordan Scully had eight, Harper Annarino had seven points and eight rebounds to lead the team on the boards.
Glenville State
Nwando Okigbo led the offense with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Stevi Yancy connected on five threes to record 17 points, Carine Pinkney had 16 while going 5-5 from the free-throw line, and Wonder Nkoyock had 14 points on four made threes.
