GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team improved to (11-4) on the year and picked up their first four-game sweep of the 2026 season this weekend, defeating Lake Erie College at Kenny Greenlief Field on Saturday (Mar. 7), 8-2 and 3-1, and on Sunday (Mar. 8), 8-7 (11 Inn.) and 8-7.
Game One – GSU 8 | Lake Erie 2
After Lake Erie opened the scoring early with a solo home run,
Greyson McNeill plated two runs in the bottom of the first with a single up the middle. Three innings later, LEC tied the game up with an RBI single but
Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez quickly gave GSU the lead back in the bottom half of the 4
th with a two-run HR. McNeill,
David Arroyo,
Austin Carter and Cajigas all added onto the Pioneer lead in the 5
th as Glenville State rolled to an 8-2 series opening victory.
Game Two – GSU 3 | Lake Erie 1
Carlos De Jesus ripped a single to the right center gap to put a run up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 1
st for the Pioneers before
Greyson McNeill and
Jacob Meadows both notched RBIs in the bottom of the fourth to give GSU a 3-0 lead. The Storm chipped into the Pioneer advantage innings later with an RBI single but Glenville State stopped the threat at just one run. Strong bullpen pitching from
Anthony Ruiz and
Ty Walton sealed the deal as GSU recorded the 3-1 win in the nine-inning ballgame.
Game Three – GSU 8 | Lake Erie 7 (11 Inn.)
In what became one of the more thrilling days Pioneer baseball will have this season, it started with an offensive explosion by the Pioneer bats in the second and third innings. GSU plated four runs in the second and another three in the third inning to go up 7-0, however, Lake Erie logged a run in the fifth, five in the 6
th and eventually tied it at 7-7 in the top of the 7
th with a solo home run. Neither team could muster together offense in extras as GSU's bats finally came alive in the 11
th and
Ashton Crace walked it off to give Glenville State the 8-7 win in 11 innings.
Game Four – GSU 8 | Lake Erie 7
In an identical score game that took four less innings, the Pioneers were once again able to get on the Storm early, this time with an RBI single by
Carlos De Jesus in the first inning. LEC scored the following stanza to tie it, however,
Colby Guy blasted his second homer of the season in the bottom of the 3
rd to make it 3-1, Pioneers. Both squads went scoreless until the 6
th when Lake Erie plated five, including a three-run home run, to go up 6-3.
Jacob Meadows helped the Pioneers inch closer in the bottom half of the inning, but LEC got the run right back in the top of the 7
th with an RBI single.
The drama unfolded in the bottom of the 7
th, when walks and HBPs loaded the bases. Wheeling transfer took one for the team and logged an RBI on a hit by pitch to trim the deficit to two runs, then
Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez poked a double down the left field line that stayed just fair enough for
JD Ford and
Austin Carter to cross home, tying the game. Meadows came up next and delivered the dagger with a walk-off single as Glenville State swept the series with an exciting 8-7 game four win.
